i set it back to break in settings cuz i new it was at least running then, and it still cuts out after like 5-10 sec of running. I'm totally confused now

My ears started burning, so I checked this thread.

Now that you're back to the break in settings, we'll try to get you running, finally. Sometimes they can be pretty irritating when they're new, but when it's broken in and tuned correctly it's worth the frustration.

With the HSN at the stock setting, lean the LSN 1/2 a turn. Make sure you have a good glow plug and a hot igniter. Put the nose up against something solid like a step or cinder block so it can't go anywhere. My personal preference is on the picnic table, against the umbrella pole.
See if it will start up. If it starts, leave the igniter on for 30 seconds more, and let me know if it keeps running when you take it off. Don't hit the throttle, just let it idle and warm up for a while.
Once it's warmed up, start to give it throttle slowly and let it push against the block. If it wants to die, adjust the LSN a hair in or out till it starts to make power and push hard.
Now put it on the ground and run it. If it idles good and takes off good, your LSN is good.
Just adjust your HSN now for WOT.

i told you rolex would help.he got me running and i had almost the same problem now my truck screams........

yeah thanks rolex. I'm pretty sure i got my hsn down. and my idle. now its just sometimes the it runs messed up. i just need a little more tuning on my LSN now. thanks everyone for there help. its finally getting there but my ignitor went dead after all day of messing with it. gotta wait till tomorrow to get it down but I'm alot happier now! =]

thanks again everyone

is it ok to put some fuel down the carb to get it started?. it seems like this is the only way i can get my started unless i open the carb more then the rec 1mm. is this bad and or is there an easier way to start it then what i am doing? besides that it seems to be running pretty well

There's no problem with priming the carb that way, but it's a lot of trouble when you have to install the air cleaner.
Put your finger over the exhaust and spin the engine till it gets fuel. If it idles good once it starts, leave it at that setting, but you might also want to raise the throttle trim on the radio to make it start easier.

how do i know when my glow plug is bad? its either that or my ignitor runs out of charge very quickly cuz after like 30 min of starting trouble i would have to charge it again to get it to sound like it would start. that seems to only happen in the beginning. one i get it started and heated up it runs really great!

That could mean that it is still slightly too rich, since the engine leans itself out as it heats up. I don't know for sure, but I'm sure Rolex will pop in with his opinion.

i hope he does before i hit the sack. would like to get and early start tomorrow without having to spend a half hour getting it started lol. big pain in the butt. I'm just glad i can at least get it running and have some fun with it though. still needs some work though.

as for what you said though cupooterlover, still rich meaning high or low SN?

Most likely the HSN but it could be the LSN. I don't know exactly which though, again Rolex will probably pop in.

Why ME? I waited 6 months to take a Saturday night off.

30 minutes of stubborn starts is a LONG time to be running a glow plug and igniter, so there's really no problem there. You might want to keep a backup since a brighter glow is a quicker start.
If you need to prime the carb to start it, you're most likely not getting enough fuel with the LSN, since that's the one responsible for idle and take off. Once it's started on a slightly richer LSN setting, let me know how it's running, and we'll go from there.
You just can't go twisting all the settings when the engine is so close to right, that's why it's just one small step at a time.

when i first try to start it for they day is it revs high cuz i got the trim up for an easier start but it dies after like 10 seconds. its not like it loosed revs it just cuts off. i got my HSN 2 1/2 turns out as per setting have seen on here for referance. and LSN 1 1/2 out. there both about 1 turn in from what i used to break it in. think that it to lean?. when i go out in a bit I'm gonna start richening the LSN like you said (little by little ) till i get her running for a min or two without shutting off. i usually leave my GPI on for at least a minute when i first start it

Once it's properly tuned, you should be able to pull the igniter off and not notice a difference in how it runs.
Needle setting are not an exact science, but mainly good reference points. Richen the LSN and keep the trim down. It needs to start and idle normally before we change anything else. Don't change anything on the HSN yet.
When it starts, just do little blips on the throttle to help warm it up, then drive it around and test things out.
Once you have a good idle and a good take off, your LSN is right. If you still have problems after that, richen the HSN slightly and test it again. There's a magic spot we need to find.

ok great thanks rolex. i will do that. but before that i have to go out for a little. check back around 2pm EST and i will let you know how it turned out
