I have no experience as this is my first Nitro car.

if someone could please give me advice on how to idle my new nitro car. As soon as I start the engine i have to hold the break other wise it will want to run away, even when its on the ground. I have tried adjusting the idle screw the low speed screw, and the high speed screw. When i adjust the low speed screw(if thats the one under the engine) it seems to make the most effect but still wont idle.

There is a TON of gas spraying out of the exhaust.

can anyone give me any advice or point me to some helpful videos. or should i just take it to my local hobby shop?

The low speed screw is on the carb slide. The idle screw iis on the side of the carb. The hi speed is the big one..

Id refer to the manual and set every thing back to stock. Idle gap should be about 1.5mm

How do i know what stock is? Would i screw it all the way in and then then unscrew it the amount of times it said to screw it in?

Screw it in ckockwise. Then back out counter clockwise. Did it not come with a manual with a break in procedure? If not google the motor manual for it.

What brand and modle is it? What motor?

Well i left for the weekend and brought the car with me but forgot the documentation at home its a 1/10th car, VX-18. I know the break in procedure said to set it to 3 1/2 turn on both needles.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Set them both to that and adjust your idle to 1.5 mm and go from there. If its cold out richen the needles (turn counter clockwise).

but how do i know where to start from? would i screw it in all the way then unscrew it, or unscrew it all the way then screw it back in?

Screw it all the way in and then unscrew it 3.5 turns out and then looking down your carby adjust the idle screw for a 1.5mm gap and go from there if its still idling to hard just use your throttle trim so It can't take off. Also make sure after you adjust your throttle trim and it still wanting to take off you give it a couple of blurps of the throttle so you don't wear your clutch out. I am having this trouble with my new buggy but you just have to be patient and as long as there's plenty of smoke you can't do much damage to your engine don't quote me on this but it's what my local hobby shop told me

Don't over tighten the needles as soon as you feel resistance don't go any further

You may want to pull the engine and check your clutch spring. If you have a busted spring it will cause the shoes to drag at a very low RPM which will stall the engine unless the idle is pretty high, which in turn makes the truck want to move.

That would be awful :\

soooo i think i figured out the issues but is it normal to want to go without my direction when its low on gas? As soon as it runs out it will go full speed for like a second then die. also how long should a tank last me when its correctly tuned

EDIT:
Nope never mind its still wants to go even after i got it to idle, I'm so frustrated. would a local shop help me figure it out, my girlfriend bought it online...

You will know if the clutch spring is broken because the tires will spin when trying to start the engine. That's what happened with my stampede. I was hammering on it a little too hard, broke the spring and when I tried to start it, it was trying to drive away from me. The shoes were fine though.

Thank you guys so much! I got my car running great.

various issues I had:
1. Idle screw/hole was to big. A local shop told be it should it should be about a credit card thickness
2. Low speed and high speed needle (I used [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38X6rBDz9Ag"]this[/ame] video)
3. Controller trim was set to push the throttle open so I lowered it
4. My break was missing a stopper. (still working on this issue...)

After I fixed these issues I was having loads of fun! Thank you all for your advice and tips. I look forward to using this forum lots and eventually helping others like myself.
