Some of you may have thought of this already. I wish I would have thought of it before I cross-threaded my first glow plug and ruined a perfectly good heat sink.

Push a piece of fuel tubing over an old screwdriver or even a chopstick and keep it your toolbox. When you remove a glow plug, use your nutdriver to break it loose, then push this thing over the end of the plug and twirl it out. The only thing you'll have to chase is the copper gasket. (hemostats work good here.)

When you replace the plug, twirl it in, pull off the tool and cinch it with the nut-driver.

Blindly using a nut-driver to install the plug did in my first sink.

I used a nail set for mine.

I'm not saying that this idea will not benefit those who need it but I've been blindly been putting in nuts and bolts for years and my heat sink is no different. One trick that I do use to put the glow plugs in is to put the engine vertical and that seems to make you never have to worry about losing the copper gasket. This also works for removal as well.
 
The fuel tubing is a great idea. It usually always catches on the first full turn no matter what. And you are right that it wont cause a cross thread :thumbup:

Unfortunately, I will take the time to do this on the bench, but never out in the field. Bad habbit, I know. Working on it though.

I even went an bought some smaller tubing for the plugs that dont hook up in reg fuel tubing :(
