i need to remove my flywheel but when i try and losen it I'm jsut turning the engine over! how do i remove it without damaging it??

many thanks

The best way is to get yourself a flywheel wrench.

If you have a pair of channel locks, you can pad the jaws with some heatshrink tubing and use it to grip the flywheel while removing the flywheel nut.

I am not a fan of using a piston stopper of any type.

To remove the flywheel after you get the nut off, you can tap on it from the engine block side with rubber mallot to loosen it.

The easiest way is to just get yourself a flywheel puller.

If you are serious about nitro, both a flywheel wrench and puller are must haves in my opinion.

Any job is a breeze if you have the right tools. The wrenches mentioned above are fairly inexpensive and will keep you from destrying your rig and make things A LOT easier.

I use a pair of large channel lock pliers to hold the flywheel. It marrs it a little bit, but not to the point of being unusable. Once the nut is off, I use a small gear puller and a crescent wrench.

Just as mentioned above; say no to piston lockers, or any kind of conrod holding tools.

i just hold the flywheel with my hand and take the nut off with a 1/4'' rachet, the flywheel holds just enough on the shaft to break the nut torque witout slipping

If the flywheel loses its grip before you can un-torque the nut, stick an old toothbrush down the carb hole (remove the carb first) and jam it in the hole in the crank. That way you won't damage anything :D

This does put stress on the con rod. Anything jammed down the carb will.

You mean crankshaft induction port, my friend :). You could risk deforming the intake port and ruin the timing.

Best to use a strap wrench, small plumbers wrench, or a pair of channellock pliers on the outer diameter of the flywheel.
