Ok, I got 2 rattle cans of the green/purple/teal and they were hard to come by. The instructions say to use their backer but I wanted to know if I could use anything else like white, silver, outlaw black or metalic black (non Spaz Stix.) I only have ratle cans available to me as I have yet to get an airbrush.

Thanks for the help.

you could try to back it wiht a white pactra. make sure you do a test piece for the 2 paints on something old or a scrap piece of lexan. spray a coat of the spaz stix down the let it set and dsry then do the ame wiht the pactra over the spaz stix if there is no reaction from the 2 paints on the test piece then go ahead and do it on the car. i am not too sure if they are two different types of paint but the test piece will take care of all doubts you may have. and remember several thin coats are better than one heavy coat.

I was hoping to avoid buying more paint just to test. I was really looking for a reply from someone who has used the paint.

o ok sorry. you will need a black to back a color change paint or elce it wont work right. it only takes like 2 mins and a can of pactra is like $3

Hey Bunc.
You can use outlaw black. It will work fine.

Ok, that I have at least. I'll do a test first as fridge suggested. This stuff really comes out clear as it says. I'm sure white would work but would have a totally different look and the white may even dominate.

The darker colors work best to bring out the holographic attributes in the paint.
I have used dark blue or dark red and purple in the past.
Worked great.
In the areas where I painted white, the color change wasn't very noticable.

Ok, good thing I looked into this more. It needs to be acrylic based and the outlaw black I have is lacquer based. My lhs has a choice between semi gloss or metallic black. Which would you go with?

Semi gloss for sure.
Good thing you checked. You have to use it on Spazstix chrome also..
I just checked also.
Sorry for the bad info.

Well, I used Tamiya acrylic semi gloss black and it bled through. The good news is, I won't feel too bad when I flip it over.

I heard to use acryic to, but if it blead through I dont know what i should use ,the lhs is out of the spaz backer black???????????????

I have used Pactra outlaw black with great results. With the bleeding thru problem, did you let the Spaz completely dry before you sprayed it with the black? Also, you may need more coats of the Spaz, I used the entire can with my 1/8 truck body.

color changing paint

You use Cratex latex black as a back up to the color changing paints. There is no problem as the latex will not lift the other paints. For the color changing paints to work properly you need a dark color like black.

I have used spaz stix color change before, just not ina rattle can. You have to do a lot of light coats before you back it. I did not use their backer either, I used pactra acryl black to back it and it worked just fine. Also as mentioned you need to wait for the color you are backing to be totally dry. I like to wait at least 24 hours before backing, if not a little longer.

It's tough to get the color change to show up well in pics, but it looked great.
