I'm having a problem with my pull start. I just broke in my Savage today and it's a brand new pull start. On about the second cycle of the heat cycle process, the cord would not recoil. So I brought it inside and begun to take the backplate off to see what the problem was. As soon as I loosened pressure on the back plate screws, it recoiled like it was supposed to. I looked it over and fooled with it and everything seemed to be working. So I put it back together and everything works fine for a while. I finished the break in process and was driving the truck around in the yard slow and I turned it over and it died. It wasn't a hard impact or anything, just going mid-speed and turned really sharp really fast and it tipped over. Anyway, when I turned it back over and it died, I went to restart it.

Now, when I pull on the cord, it's like it's not cathing. If I pull slow, it catches and turns over the motor. But when I pull fast it just doesn't catch. It's recoiling back in as it should and everything feels very smooth except that it's not turning over when I pull fast. What should I do??

Clean The One Way Bearing With Denatured Alcohol.i Had The Same Problem And That Fixed It on my aftershock.i was told it was due to running rich during break in

It was running VERY rich on the factory settings during break in, so that's probably what it is. Thanks a lot for the help so quickly guys! I was only running on slow to mid speeds, and when I would hit ridges and dips out in the yard, it was like this thing was made to jump. It just floated through everything, feeling a bit top heavy but VERY balanced. I think I like the suspension better than the T-maxx, because it's not great right now but I see A LOT of potential.

Oh Don't worry Rolex, I did what you told me to do. I covered the whole thing in thick plastic bags and poked wholes for the axles. then I poked a whole for the air filter and put it in a vented plastic bag. Then I wrapped each wheel in its on plastic bag so I didn't get the tires dirty. At first it filled up like a balloon cuz I forgot to cut a whole for the exaust, so I taped a flewistraw to the bag and used it for the exahaust outlet and put a filter in it so no dirt could get back in. It worked good, not one spec of dirt. Thanks for such a good tip!

Yea I had the same problem with my nitro and all it took was cleaning the one way bearing after that it was gripping it pretty welll :)

 my Maxx's PS does that too even after I cleaned the OWB. I think the PS has some grease in it, after it's been used for a while it won't leak lube everywhere so the OWB will work better.

If it starts doing it I just squirt a shot of brake cleaner in the PS. It stiffens it up real quick.

Here's mod I did to my truck, simple way to go a long time without pulling the bearing to clean it.

Drill a small hole in your pull start or roto start cover that is in-line with the I.D. of the owb. Just big enough to fit a spray straw from a cleaner/Wd-40 can(I use brake cleaner). Also drill a small hole in the bottom for a drain. Then when the owb slips, just insert the straw and give it a squirt. When this method doesn't work, then it's time to replace the owb. At this point they usually fall apart when you remove them.

man the roto start back plate keeps looking better and better! Hopefully once I get it cleaned it wont have any more problems for a while. The factory settings were so rich for break in that fuel was dripping from the spout so fast it was just shy of "spewing"
