I have pulled my cord out of my pull start like 8 times am i doing something wrong or is this something that happens alot.

The problem isn't with the pullstarter; it's your technique. Instead of trying to start the engine like a lawn mower, use short pulls. Roughly 6-8 inches.

What engine?

Just curious as I have a XTM 24.7 which has (had) a really short cord on it. I've pulled it out a couple times since I'm used to a much longer cord. I replaced the cord with an OS cord (which is considerably longer like I'm used to) and haven't had a problem since.

If you can fit more rope in there, get a longer one. I agree, short pulls will help, but a cord that fits you would make it a less likely issue.

Yeah I pull my Picco's cord out a good 12 inches, but the string is at least 18" long. I've never had a problem with it. Just make sure you don't over extend the string and you won't have a problem. A good rule is 8-10" like Olds said.
