My SCT obsession is starting to take over again.

I have several TRX 1/10, 2 and 4wd. I agree they are quite good, and plenty durable. However none of them come even close to the performance or durability of Tekno for me.
Generally speaking, the purchase price plus upgrades to a TRX ends up being pretty close to a Tekno, yet still not the quality of the Tekno.
Just my take.

I built out an sct410.3 for right around $500. I like the Slash but if I can have a Tekno for about the same money, well it's a done deal.
That's where everyones experience is different. My personal experience with Tekno, they are pretty durable, but also more costly to maintain, whereas, both my 2WD and 4WD Slash didn't cost nearly as much to buy, or upgrade, or maintain, and, they both took a ton of abuse. I have videos on my YouTube channel of both of them at a concrete skate park, in snow, and only had a couple minor things on the 2WD break once, and, once I installed the HD kit on the 4WD, it ran all winter, on just about every surface, in snow and ice, and slush in the spring, and didn't break anything.

A couple of us upgraded from Slash 4x4 ultimates to 410.3s for our backyard racing and I wish we'd done it sooner. More driving, less fixing, and the Slash is just not competitive enough no matter the setup/upgrades. A world of difference IMO. We run all year round, no big jumps but plenty of crashes (and we flip the cars by bumping them with another car if noone feels like walking).

Everyone's "bashing" practices are different. Taking SCTs to a skatepark and turning them into stunt trucks... all bets are off.

how are you building a $450 kit for $500? using leftover electronics?
No, it was around 2 years ago, I grabbed the 410.3 for $290 from Tower w/coupon, generic max10 120a 3670 combo for $115. DS3225 servo for $20, a set of Jconcepts Choppers on Hazard wheels, $50 or 60 and topped it off with a Slash rtr body for $25. I have bins full of rtr radios and receivers, so I don't count that into my costs. But yeah, $500 for what I consider the ultimate sct.
I see the 2.0 is $450, which I probably wouldn't buy myself, too much coin for my use. I don't really bash the sct, just backyard track duties. The only upgrade I added was an aluminium A block, I broke the stock plastic piece in a tree strike, otherwise bone stock.

Same recipe here, including wishing we'd done it sooner. Like I said, the TRX 1/10 are fine machines, but just don't measure up to a race kit no matter what, IMO anyway.

I have 2 Tekno's now, an OG MT410, now on an ET48.3 chassis, and the SCT410.3, which now rolls on 1/8 buggy tires/wheels w/+10 17mm adapters, Kaiju body, both are easily my favorite rigs. I have multiple 6 and 8s Arrma, Corally, TRX and even an Xray 1/8 buggy. The Tekno's are my favs.

I wish I could have a Slash 4x4 Ultimate to compare maintenance costs/things for myself... but I know that will never happen until the fastest name in RC sends me a box filled with labeled baggies.

How much would a person guess a bare boned, no body, no electronics, no wheels/tires Slash 4x4 Ultimate kit would go for?

I see new "Raptor Extended Slash 4x4" sliders going for as low as $269.99. Add a $74 set of GTR shocks into the picture... ? A bare boned Slash 4x4 Ultimate kit (no body/wheels/tires/electronics) at $340 (just a guestimate) and you might see me lean towards going down such a path. The key word is "might" as there still would be lots to compare/consider when looking at other SCT 4x4 out there. I'll even forget about the extra $60 needed to upgrade to a center diff.

For some I guess they're the bees knees, which is fine w/me. Like I've said, I have a Hoss, Rusty 2wd and a Bandit XL-5 (now brushless), and they have indeed provided plenty of enjoyment. They just lack the precision of the Tekno's. I treat the others like "red headed step-children", they get plenty of snow action during the winter.. maybe that's why I can't get the screw pins out of the alloy rear hubs on the Bandit? Bassturds are seized right tight in there!!🤷‍♂️:p

I have eight of the Traxxas 1/10 4x4 models now. Only three were purchased as RTR. The others have been built from parts. Some have the Extreme Heavy Duty hubs/shafts, the others have the aluminum. All have the center diff, and all are great little rigs for my uses.
Rustler - Hoss - Rash (Road Slash) - Stash (Street Slash) - Rally - Slash - Telluride - Raptor R

If I raced, I'd likely look at a different platform, since I would only race if my equipment was going to be competitive with the others.

imo just start racing to get out there, you can still be competitive with a slash with an lcg chassis just need practice at driving on the track just me though
i agree, i really love the way my LCG slash handles, even the HCG is fun just not as capable. Wheel time on a slow rig trying to keep up with others is a great way to learn and far more satisfying when you get a podium!

Thanks, I haven't raced in decades and really don't miss it.

I haven"t been shooting competively in almost 10 years... don't miss that either.

I enjoy informal matches and bash sessions... much less stress, much more fun, for me.

That's the ticket! I just want it to be fun, if it ain't, why bother.

that’s all that matters is what’s fun for you, for me going and racing is fun and even though I’m not winning yet 😉 i’m still having fun
