After working hard, and saving as much as I could, I finally got the car and engines that I have been drooling over...

The MBX5 without body... That's going to be painted coming up, as well as the white parts died either black or red (haven't decided yet). Note the starter box in the background... Ofna Truestart 12V, brand new. Please don't look at the pipe, lol. I goofed and forgot to make sure that I had one in the shopping cart.

The engine is an OS VZ-R Turbo II. For those wondering, the prospec comes with Crimefighter M3's, a body, and fluids (tower hobbies lists it as not having any of those).

Overall fit and finish, I'd have to give the assembly/fit of the entire car major thumbs up. I haven't assembled a car that goes together so easily (well, the instructions were slightly confusing..) in a long time. And the fact that it comes with almost all the adjustment parts (arm mounts, etc) that'd ever be needed, that's definately a bonus.

My GT, with it's new powerplant, an OS TZ .12. I saw one of these go in a XXXNT, and just had to have one, after seeing the truck wheelie at half throttle.

Note the air filter; that is indeed a .21 air filter (the intake on that .12 is ENORMOUS!!). Both engines did NOT come with air filters (seems OS is no longer supplying them anymore... bummer).

Now, the questions...

What pipe would go good with the VZ-R T-2 (.21)? I have an OS t-2050 header. I was thinking a JP2, possibly an 086? The specs are;

3,000-42,000 rpm (practical)
2.5ps / 34,000 rpm (power output)

What air filter would you guys recommend? I'm leaning towards getting another MotorSaver (I'm not breaking it in until I get a trustworthy air filter). The one I have on it in the picture is the MBX5 stock one.

I thought that vzr2 was an onroad mill?

BTW most OS engines work great with the OS 2050 pipe.

Yep - I couldn't find an acceptable off-road mill on tower. At least, in theory, I can gear it down to get some more grunt out of it.

Ironically, I had the Silencer (2050) in my cart on tower, but decided to go with a JP1 or 063... then brainfarted and didn't order it.

I'm eager to break this puppy in, but it turns out I need to get some wide offset hexs to use my old rims n tires.... Ah well, $20 for a set isn't too bad.

edit; Is it normal for the front and center diffs to feel a little 'snug'? Or do they "run in" once the car has been ran? I built 'em with the small orings in place....

Mugen diffs tend to be tight at first. They will breakin and you'll be fine. You should look at the VZ-B Vspec. Insane mill for around the same price.

I'll definately keep it in mind. For now, this engine will be just fine; All the power of my O1 Comp (in my storm, soon to be sold), with the reliability of an O.S. engine.

Only thing that scares me (slightly), is it's got a three needle carb.... :shrug:
