so i found a place down the street from where i work. which is great because it saves me alot of gas. its 3 bed two bath so theirs plenty of room. its not the flashest thing you've ever seen but for 575/month with water its not to bad. and a a very very large amount of land in and near the park to run my nitro :] with great neighbors and very friendly landlords i just wanted to get some peoples tips and advice on what to do and get and money management etc etc. its my first place so any help would be great :]

Watch how much utilities you use, turn off lights not in use, wash with cold water, use florescent light bulbs, keep your heat down as low as possible 66 - 68 degrees and in the summer keep it up at like 78 -82 that will help you save money on your utility bills, walk or ride a bike to work if you are close enough, shop wisely for your groceries go to a bag your own groceries kind of place, I know that saves me money, hope this helps...

yeah you dont realize how much all that stuff adds up when your parents are paying for it, i rarely turn the lights on in my house now lol.

I'm in the same boat!! I'm getting my own place as well. Sign the lease and do the walk through tomorrow at 9 am! I've moved out before but it was always with someone elses name on the lease. I would just rent rooms. Now I found a brand new place, 2 bed 2 bath all appliances included (washer, dryer, microwave, stove, refrig.) for 1100 a month!!

From what I've learned, dont eat out (except for special occasions), eat lots of ramen and mac n chz! Hang dry your clothes whenever possible(keeps them from fading/shrinking as well as cuts down on consumption). if you live close enough, walk or ride your bike to and from work. Every little penny helps.

First place alone? Congrats man. Its a big step.... best advice, wear a sweater when its cold out, and just leave the heat off. I do this, and i save 45 avg a month on electricity.

oh man, i rememember my first place.. also remember getting the boot!LOL.. the bills really add up fast. here are some tips to help out. first, be clear with your lease. your landlord may be nice, but he most likly has no intensions of giving you your security back AND YOU WILL NEED IT TO MOVE to your next pad. so dont break nothin. go grocery shopping and bag your lunch. eating out gets real expensive. $5 a day plus a couple take out diners and your down a $100 that month. turn your lights off, computer,tv, and heat. those bills can be huge at the end of the month. get basic cable. its cheaper to invite your freinds over then it is to go to the club. and safer too. DONT GET A FREAKIN ROOMATE!! they will tell you how much cheaper it will be, but just the opisite, they cost you money!!!! PLAY HARD, BUT WORK HARDER!!
CONGRATS. AND GOOD LUCK.

This is all great advice, all I can add is to make sure you balance your account. Meaning know where your money is all the time, I never did...I used the memory method. It worked for awhile but it will always get you in the end. Good for you and good luck, keep your nose clean and you can do it.

Don't take no wooden nickels...

Seriously though, don't get party happy and get so trashed on a work night that you can't make it in the next day. It WILL catch up with you quickly. Yes, been there done that...

Thanks for all the help everyone :D
deff. ALOT of great tips here to help me out! I'm going to turn in the application tonight after work. At the moment i can't move in immediately because the last people are still moveing out and whatnot but i should be in there by mid this month i hope :)
Once again appreciate everyone's help! :first_place:
