So I have been messing around with an idea to build a mini (1/24 scale) monster truck basher, or you could call it basher "lite". I like to try to push the envelope, so I'm looking at building a "fast" (for the scale) MT. I'm thinking like 5-6mph. Equivalent to a fast paced walk or slow run. And I know I could build a 1/18, but this is more of a challenge :).

The idea came from purchasing the SCX24 Bigfoot body from JConcepts for my kiddo, I want to make her a pink Bigfoot MT. I have my 1/24 Lexus, but I don't want to really keep changing links and drive shafts when I want to swap bodies, so naturally next step would be to build another one! 😁

Here's a current list of what I've put together for a build:
- Mofo RC Ugly AF chassis
- micro Komodo Brushless motor, comes with 11t pinion
- Injora complete transmission with 55t spur gear (mod.3)
- Mofo RC pinion (mod.3, 1.5mm), maybe 14t? Mofo also has 20t, to change the gear ratio. *Could also look at changing spur gear 🤔
- Injora 11KG Coreless High Torque Micro Servo for 1/24 SCX24
- lizard pro esc
- Injora axles
-2s lipo
- jconcepts renegade MT tires with tribute wheels

Then there's the shocks, body mounts, receiver etc, but I'm focusing on the drivetrain here.

I think I can achieve the mph I'm interested in with this setup, albeit probably some trial and error. The other option is using mod.5 (I think that's quicker? It was hard to tell), but I was finding it more difficult to find compatible components (mod.3 being stock scx24), maybe I was going cross eyed with the research and didn't see much past the weeds I was already in.

This would all happen after I finish my rally car, so it's a little ways out. But I thought it would be fun to see what folks think and I thought it could be a fun topic since all crawlers crawl, but I don't see many quick minis.

Does the scx24 have the 2 speed transmission like the fms24 does? My buddy has a few fms24's and they seem pretty quick. But I admit, my Ascent 18 is geared so low and is heavy enough that anything seems pretty quick.

The SCX24 does not, would be even better if it did. I was also wondering about this and if I could put a 2 speed trans in it. My 1/18 FMS is 2 speed and I love that about it

That is good to know, that the scx24 doesn't. It is one of the things my buddy loves about the fms.

I looked at pics of both transmissions, and I can't help but think it would be possible. But again, I have not messed with them enough to know for sure.

I'll look into it more, it would be pretty sweet to has 2 speed on one.

I’m a big fan of the FCX24’s 😎🤙

I’m unsure but I may have seen one on ebay or in karnage rc on etsy, a 2 speed. You may want to look there also.

I found the 2 speed trans on eBay. Karnage rc has some cool stuff too! I've looked at their stuff a few times now.

I doubt that JC body will even fit on the Furitek chassis for the Smasher. And to be honest, I have always thought that JC body was a terrible looking rendition of the Bigfoot bodies. It looks nothing like any of them.

If you're going to do a Bigfoot, the Smasher body is actually spot on with the original, and it even comes with the bigfoot decals to do this. This is the exact truck the Smasher was modeled after.

Look at the body. It's spot on.

The only things they missed on it is the double rollbar and engine sticking through the hood.

If you're going to do a newer bigfoot, you're going to want the proper, shorter wheelbase truck, which would likely be the SCX24 C10.

I'm stuck with the JC body. It doesn't have to be representative of Bigfoot, could just be a pink F250, the kiddo won't care 😉.

The SCX24 C10 and Bronco have the same 132mm wheelbase, so looks like I'd be back to my original plan of a mofo RC chassis. Maybe fitting that max smasher body to it?
FMS does a nice job with scale bodies for sure.

I liked how that Furitek rampart chassis had links with it too, kind of a nice package with it v, but the 139mm is the downside, though would would fit the smasher body too. Looks like the Rampart chassis in your video.

Hopefully I'm making sense..

The Furitek chassis and FMS body go together perfectly. If you used a 132mm wheelbase and tried using the Smasher body on that, it's not going to work unless you went with (I'm guessing here) the Gladiator extended rear links, as the FMS body is a long bed. That, and the Smasher body is a true 1/24th scale. The SCX24 stuff is actually closer to 1/22nd scale, based on the 3d modeling I have done with them. And the fact that 1/25 model kits bodies are pretty short on them pretty much confirms that.

There used to be a shop that made absolutely amazing carbon fiber monster truck chassis' in 1/10th and 1/24th scales, but sadly, they closed up shop. You can however find some pretty cool 3d printed ones on etsy. Like this one.

Thanks for all the knowledge on this, it's definitely helping me figure the logistics out! Theres always so many nuances to consider, it's crazy making sometimes 😵‍💫

I think I was looking at that exact chassis last night or one very similar on Etsy. I do like the price point of it over mofo RC and the idea of being a true 1/24 scale which I could use the Smasher body on. I'd like to paint another hard body, so I'm leaning towards this now. As long as I can get the speed I want into it, I'll be stoked.
With a chassis like the one you mentioned in mind, I'll look into what links and such I can get for it. I'd imagine trying to find parts that are compatible with FMS upgrades would work, but who knows. Looks like I have some changes to make on my spreadsheet :)

The Smasher in 2nd gear is quite a bit of fun. It could be a bit faster, but in stock form, it's pretty fun
I'll mess with gearing and see if I can get a little more top end from it. I've wonder if I could fit a 1/18 scale motor in one of these 😆

The stock motor seems to be running close to it's potential with stock gearing in 2nd gear. It doesn't have a lot of oomph on launch, which seems to be that the motor is struggling just a tad. I'd be a bit worried messing with the gearing too much. Even one tooth up on that small of a pinion is going to have a pretty big impact on motor temps. If it did have one tooth more on the pinion, I bet it would take a second or two for it to reach top speed. And by then, that motor could burn up.
