Hello,

I need some help with my MBX-5. I was looking into buying a PROSPEC conversion kit, but someone said at the LHS that I would be better off buying Fioroni parts. I need some helpful info and who has the best prices?? I just got rid of my Kanai 3 on Ebay. I was leaning towards getting a Special 1, but I got a great deal on this MBX-5. So I'm looking to beef it up!!

Thanks for any info

personally i like the mugen original parts. if you want bling then sure- get the fioroni stuff, but i have seen their stuff bend (even break) when my m.o. stuff is unscathed. too many variables to say that the m.o. parts are stronger and i wont say they are, but i like to stick with parts designed by the same manufacturer.

Thanks Flash,

I appreciate the information, do you know of any places that sell the PROSPEC conversion?

I just ordered from these guys... I'll let you know how it goes...
Carolina's RC

***Update... These guys were a pleasure to deal with. Fast shipping & great communication. Great place for all your MBX5 hopups...***

Hey ImBroken,

What are you replacing on your PROSPEC?

I was looking at Carolina's RC and they have a PROSPEC conversion kit for $249, but the shock towers are ECK TEC. Is there a plus or minus going with ECK TEC instead of MO? Then Hardcore Racing has there shock towers that are Machined from 3.1mm thick 6AL4V (Titanium) not Aluminum.

I just wanted to pick up these...
CVA Boot set

And ended up getting these also... lol

Mugen Al. Radio tray

I think the Eck Tec parts are right up there with the ProSpec parts as far as durability/weight. They look to be pretty nice. I'm sure the Hardcore Ti. parts are Top Notch also.. I dont think you can go wrong either way...
ProSpec, Fioroni, EckTec or Hardcore....

carolinas r/c is real good. i just ordered a load of stuff a while back. dont forget to get some diff rebuild kits. for only $5 they sure do a great job of sealing the diff's, and its nice to have an extra on hand too. i would buy either from mbx5parts.com (carolinas rc) or ace hobbies @ acehardwarehobbies.com. these are the only two places I've noticed that carry a good selection of stock and M.O. parts. mine came with all the good stuff and i haven't had anything break since i started racing the mugen in june. all i have done is replace the bushings and arms one time. i switched to acer bearings early on because i have heard the stock bearings can go without warning- and i race sometimes twice a week.

Ohhhh ImBroken,

Thanks for showing me those CVA boots! There a must have. I think I'm gonna go with the MO PROSPEC hop-ups, it will pay off in the long run. I have seen alot of MBX-5's for sale on Ebay with King Headz and Racers Edge hop-ups and those don't fetch the money one would expect. Here's a pic of my Kanai 3 I just sold, I'm going with the same exact color scheme. I wanted some nice blue anodized parts, but I guess the blue CVA boots will do! lol

Mugen or Fioroni are both great options, Fioroni have been in the option parts industry for ages and they know what they are doing. It really depends on how you want it to look. If you want it to look like the prospec in battleship grey then go Mugen options, otherwise the nice blue from Fioroni is a great choice

Or you could just get the new black Fioroni parts and look all Vadered out!

I'm following this closely since I'll be picking up a mbx-5 roller for 300 bucks in the next couple weeks. :D

Hey untchbl,

Keep a look out on Ebay for some good deals on MBX-5's. I been seeing alot of them going up for sale. I scored a almost new MBX-5 with a RB World S7II,Hitec 645's,New battery pack, NOVAK XXTRA SYNTHESIZED FM RECEIVER,Ofna 086 in-line pipe for $400 The deals are out there! I guess some people prefer to just buy a PROSPEC instead of just buying the hop-ups?????????????

Thanks for the heads up. I'm all about a used one. I want the deal you got. lol

Give me a search for ebay, I don't ever seem to find them all that easily. :D

I like the black fioroni stuff by the way. It'll be that or the M.O. parts for me. eck tec stuff looks nice also. I'm all about industrial sleeper type looks. Less bling, the better.

Eck Tec

I may a bit biased.. :)

But Eck Tec stuff is world class.. I've run the option parts on my buggy for over a year, and have gotten rave reviews from everyone who's tried the parts.

Their parts have more adjustment options than the Mugen upgrade parts. For example, the shock towers have twice the mounting holes, the ackerman has another setting farther back, and they have front and rear tie blocks that have adjustable anti-squat...an Eck Tec exclusive!

Their newest series of options are Black anodized, and look sweet on the X5..

We've also got a Pro-Spec upgrade package featuring Eck Tec aluminum options.

Hello jmart1013,

Do you feel that the ECK TEC parts are more durable then MO parts? Do they come in any other colors? I would love to convert my MBX-5 to a full PROSPEC with MO parts, but is it the best bang for your buck?

Great site you've got here! Can't belive I haven't stumbled into it until now.. Sorry if I overstepped my bounds there.. I won't post any more links..

I don't know if I'd say Eck Tec is MORE durable than Mugen parts...but I would say that they are AS durable, and offer a better value and more adjustment options.. And Black is the only color they currently have, although I could probably get my hands on some green anodized parts special order if interested..

Does anyone know if they make a optional antenna mount for the MBX-5? I hate the spring mount, it gives me that (Radio Shack) RC feeling! I was thinking of buying and using a Kanai antenna mount and rigging it up to the receiver/battery housing.

That spring mount saves your antenna when you rollover!
