Hello all,
I've picked up a used 22 5.0 DC roller off ebay. I've never owned/built/driven a 2wd buggy before, looking to absorb some rctalk wisdom for getting it setup!

As I've got some learning to do regarding driving a 2wd buggy compared to my 4wd sct’s, I'm not really looking for upgrade or tuning info at this point. Planning on doing a complete teardown and rebuild when i get the buggy to get familiar with it, will just set it up to the specs in the manual for now.

Its unlikely that ill be actually racing this buggy, just burning laps on my own dirt track. So getting it setup to be “competitive” is not necessary, just want to have some fun!

I do have a couple questions though:

-looks like a low pro servo pictured in the manual, is it possible to run full size servo? If so, is there dowsides to doing so?

-looks like ill have to pick up some shorty 2s lipo’s, what mah should i be aiming for for a buggy like this? Small and light or as big as possible for grip? Or in the middle?

-for anyone who has spent some time with this platform, what are the common wear items or weak links? I like to have spares on hand for my rc’s

-whats a decent motor/esc combo to put in this thing? Again, not racing, just after good value/performance.

-Tire recommendations for outdoor dirt track? Generally hardpack somewhat bumpy, with some dust/loose dirt on top.

Thanks in advance!

Should be able to run a standard size servo. Personally I haven't used a low pro servo yet but my guess is that the low pro would offer more space out front and less weight.

Which ever you like basically. Me coming from 4wd buggies, my uncle uses a 4600mah SMC pack while I use a 5200 CHNL pack and used to run a 6100mah Maclan pack. I'm just like you, not trying to be competitive but I'm just racing and going to the track for fun so whichever works out for you. They also have standard shorty packs, LCG and ULCG packs these days. But if I remember correctly from what I seen in AMains video, a ProTek standard shorty was more consistent than a LCG ProTek shorty pack. I have to find that video again.

Good general things to keep on hand are arms, shock towers, hubs, shock shafts, axles, hinge pins braces or bulkheads, ect. Any common weak points.

If your looking for the cheapest, I'd go with a Hobbywing 10BL120 G2 SD and with the quickrun series motors. Or any motor if that. Usually FTM (fixed timing motors) are usually less in price than the normal versions. Like comparing a Hobbywing Justock or Bandit to a V10 G4 series.

I'm hoping to get into some outdoor dirt tracks this summer and I don't have any experience with dirt but my buddies suggested me to Hole Shot M3s for all my cars. Not sure if they would work for your style track but it's worth a shot. Or best thing you can do is talk to the locals and race director at your track and see what they run.

Just to clarify, the track I'm referring to is on my property. There are no other racers or race directors to pull knowledge from haha.

what is the soil like exactly? you see here in Mi we have Dirt no lava rock in it a few Glacier stones( most over a ton)..

clay/silt/dirt mix, some small rocks and a few roots. Gets muddy and heavy in the winter/spring. Hardpack and dusty in the summer. Will blue groove if i keep up on track maintenance and drive consistently (rare lol)

Well it took over 5 weeks to get here, but the mailman delivered the buggy yesterday!
Looks to be in overall decent shape, just needs a good cleanup.
Tore it down last night, hopefully will get to cleaning in the next couple evenings.
Not sure what motor/esc I'm putting in there yet…

Probably should have snapped a pic of it all assembled and clean, but i didnt lol.
First run with the buggy, actually first time driving a 2wd rc since i was about 10 years old (30yrs ago).
I have temporarily installed the stock motor/esc from my pro4 sc10 (reedy brushless 3300kv 80a). I will eventually get some sort of hobbywing sensored system in it. Running 26/72 gearing and have the throttle turned down to 70% on the radio, honestly cannot tell its not a sensored system with this gearing!

Cool looking buggy, I like the paint job.
Buggy came with 2 bodies, both in usable condition. I have a new proline body and some miscellaneous parts on order from amain.
I do like l the paint jobs on both bodies. I think I'm gonna do a black/yellow/gold theme on the new body.

I've been indoor carpet racing these last few months with mine. The things that broke so far:
turnbuckles (twice)
front spindle hubs (twice)
rear wing and wing stay
front pivot block
front a arms
shock shaft eyelet
front shock tower

Every time I break something, I order 2. Except the front spindles. Those break if you look at them funny so I keep at least three COMPLETE sets on hand. Because it'll never fail, you'll break the one you already used...
