I bought my wife a Nikon s8200 last year and I think the kids dropped it and it's having issues. I'm looking at a Nikon j1 does anyone have any experience with these? She has wanted a slr for awhile but the j1 is smaller so it will fit in her purse when we go on trips.

Point and shoot cameras are nice for portable. The newer ones have some great quality. That J1 looks like a pretty nice hybrid, and the lenses are interchangeable. It's also much more portable than the DSLRs.

I use a Nikon D5000 DSLR, it's great, but for trips she may not want to have a big camera hanging form her neck.

When you shop, look here. They have some great deals on factory refurbs, all carry warranties too.

Thanks. My brain is starting to hurt with all of the reading I've been doing. It has good reviews except for low light. But all of my cameras have struggled with that. A local camera shop says he loves his j1 but it won't replace is dslr. I think she don't need all of the bells and whistles of one of those so the j1 might work.

I'm actually still interested in buying an incredible Nikon D800.
I see many places have dropped the price nearly in half, from what was the regular $2500.00 only a few months ago. Add to that the price of a decent lense...

Amazon's high prices have remained quite static.
That j1 looks terrific, for what it is. Nothing beats a real dslr though...

Not sure about the J1 but on a standard DLSR you can improve the low light by buying a good quality lens... I would never give up my Canon Dlsr best investment i made...

If you send it to nikon they can figure out what is wrong with it and usually can fix them for much less then buying another camera. I recently had my 60D fixed and tuned up for about $200.

The J1 is in the mirrorless class of cameras and I've read that people seem to like them. I've handled a few of them and they are small in the hand, but that could be an issue if you put a big lens on the end of it. Either way you can't go wrong with on of the 2 big brand cameras!

Well she said that she wants a flow blown dslr. It's between the Nikon 3100d and the Canon rebel t3. Were going to play with them in Walmart and I'll go buy it from a camera shop on Friday.
