hey guys I'm just getting into nitro rc trucks and I'm looking for a badass truck, i know its hard to say hands-down what is the best so here is some criteria I'm looking for.

1. This truck's gotta be SUPER fast. I've seen some vids and some of these things fly but some are just pathetic.
2. i want as many speed trans as possible, i've seen some videos of the 2 speeds and I'm kind of disappointed cause it seems like there is so much more potential but the truck is just hindered by the tranny.
3. i want to have some pretty good ground clearance cause where i live there is sticks and stuff id like to not get stuck on, hehe. doesn't have to be a ridiculous amount of clearance but obviously i wont be getting a nitro car.
4. Price doesn't really matter, i dont want to spend over $1000 but if i have to, oh well, lol.
5. this thing can't be Super hard to put together, i dont know if i want to get something already put together or not, maybe thats something i can get some advice on, but I'm kind of leaning towards one i put together myself so then i can know more about it when i need to fix/upgrade.

These are the big things that I'm looking for, but I'm totally open to ideas, only thing I'm not open to is getting some sort of "beginner" car, i want soemthign thats going to last me a long time and something i can drive in a park or something without having someone else come over and just stomp the hell out of my truck, haha.

OFNA/Jammin X1-CRT. It only needs 1 speed to be king. It is built on a 1/8th buggy concept (that is why its called a truggy) but still has large tires to give you some clearance. It is tougher, quicker, better in the air, better handling and easier to work on than any monster truck.

EDIT: Other similar models would be the Mugen MBX-5T, and the Kyosho MP777 ST-R.

EDIT AGAIN: See for yourself:

Just make sure you get the kit, and not the RTR. Kits come with hundreds of dollars worth of tougher, lighter parts. The RTRs get junked down a ton to make up for the fact that they are throwing in a crappy radio, engine and servos for the same price.

What about the "Kyosho Giga Crusher DF 4WD GP26X2 KIT" from www.rushrc.com its got 2 engines and a 3 speed trans, seems like an awesome little truck. any opinions?

The only Monster truck that I would suggest with a 3 speed is a Savage.
The 3 speed will help with top speed, but not a lot.
You can change the gears on the clutch bell and spur for more top end.
Also remember that the faster you go, the harder it is to control.
You can get into an HPI savage 4.6 for half of what your looking to spend.

Here is the link to the Giga Crusher http://www.rushrc.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_4256&products_id=11254
it says its got a 3-speed trans, and its a pretty damn nice looking truck.

i dont think the X1-CRT is really my style, althought it does look like a nice unit.

The savage looks really nice, is this the one i should be looking at?

or should i be looking at kits or something? not sure what the difference is if it doesn't say kit. btw thx for the info about RTR vs KITS

It's not hard to say. >SAVAGE< That was easy.

Take a look at the Team associated MGT.
Thats what I run, and I've had just about everything at one point.
Scroll down to the 4.60 SE.
It's rtr.

I'd recommend staying away from 3 speed trannies as a first nitro RC....and definately NOT a twin engine for your first one......the Savage is probably the best thing that fits your requirements...it's got to be the toughest truck right out of the box...the savage SS is a nice kit, I think the Savage X is going to be out in kit form soon too......

+1 for RatzoRC

Def got to be a savage, bit durable all found fun, for the basher or serious guys and HPI roxors aswell :hehe:

ok i think imma go for the savage, i really appricate all the help guys, now which version of the savage would be the best? i really like the look of the "HPI Limited Edition Savage 25 HPI852" but whats the difference between that and the "HPI871 Savage SS 4.6 Kit with Nitro Star K4.6 Engine"?

Another thing, neither of these come with a controller right? what other things will i need to buy?

Some come with a radio and some don't.
I would get the 4.6 Savage.
Has all the hardened stuff on it.
Go to www.towerhobbies.com to see what it comes with and what it doesn't.

If not included you'll need"
Fuel
Glow ignitor
glow plugs
I'd get a fail safe
battery for roto start
rechargeable battery pack for the receiver and charger

radio gear

I also vote for the savage for all the reasons stated. I havent heard nothing bad about it and parts availablity should be easy to find.

Revo 2.5 RTR $450 or less delivered on the net.

My two Cents.

The Savage is a beast...but the Revo is the best truck for the $ on the market... just my opinion.

Definately stay away from the dual engine deals and three speeds...waste of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Also don't go the Truggy route...they are strictly for the track.

Mr T

kit or rtr?

you know yourself best, do you think you would enjoy (as most of us here) the building process. and have the self control to do things right....or do you see yourself half assing things if you get impationt & want to finish quickly

imo, id get the savage x rtr if you just want to breakin the engine & go or the savage 4.6ss kit if the thought of building it intrests you......or best of all if you can wait a little bit get the savage x ss kit

Revo 3.3, not as tough as the Savage (very close) faster than any version of Savage, handles better. Take the Revo out of the box break in the engine and your done, nothing else is needed. If you do get a Savage I also say get the 4.6 kit, great truck to build with very good directions.

Even buying the best truck on the market you will want to add some type of hop ups so save a little $$ for that.

man i've been looking around alot and it looks like the Savage X SS looks like the one i want, but SMaxxin u have a good point.

After taking everyones advice i think i might get a Revo 3.3 RTR just to get started. Then next month i when the Savage X SS 4.6 is available ill buy that thing and take my time putting it together and getting really badass parts for it. Then i will always have my Revo for backup and for friends to play with.

Good idea?

Revo would have been my second choice anyway...lol

The Revo really faster than the Savage 4.6? if so thats kind disappointing, i want the fastest truck on the track, lol.
