OoooooooooOOOoOoOooo, fancy…🤩

The only AKA tool I own.. Works great for this procedure.. I prefer my wheel wrenches deep well, but this one gets a lot of play on the bench during builds, and rebuilds fosho..

Yahtzee, biitchez…

Setting up hub height.. These interchange top to bottom for various track conditions, setup, driver, etc.. Thickness of the “hat” is fairly visible in this photarrrrd.. In the background you can see the corresponding kingpins. Chrome goes with chrome, and hard ano with hard ano.. Obviously..😂

I skipped the turnbuckles assembly for y’all-you can scroll back up to the rear clip if you missed it.. 😉

Soooooo nice they now incorporate these into the outer suspension components as well.. Ya get what you pay for with Tekno. Seriously.

Same-same, but different up front…

Just a couple shots of them prior to tightening down, so you can see what’s going on, and understand WHY.. 😎

Holy SHATNER…. That’s a fat sack! 😳

IMG_7689.webp

We will just have a little “J” to start off..😜

IMG_7690.webp

Moarrrrrrr option parts/upgrades.. Hybrid bearings by way of Avid RC, more T-Work’s Titanium goodness, 12.9 screws from Tony’s, and wait……wuuuuuut??? you have to be F’n kidding me….😫

IMG_7692.webp

One of these “spares” will likely go right in the trashola…

IMG_7694.webp

These guys-right. Dammit. Here… Tekno plastics are second to none, but SERIOUSLY guys?!? 🙄 That’s some straight bullllshiiit, Geraldo…

IMG_7693.webp

All of my other Tekno vehicles came with the aluminum units, STANDARD. Guess we found our next stopping point, fellerz…

IMG_7698.webp

Sold out Errrrrrrrywhere… But right here, or one nutjob on eGay that has a pair, but the shipping was more than the part..🙄

IMG_7691.webp

So now we wait… Again. Bastiiiids…😫

More to come shortly, you animals…🍻🤘

How dare they lessen the quality of a part to save a buck 😡

Build is looking super sexy man. This stuff is just awesome to watch.

Yeah-I know it… Is what it is. I bet there’s no problem with the plastic units, but they’re not in a spot you’ll see them loosening up during a track day, run, bash, etc.. I’m not risking it, and IMO they SHOULD absolutely still be aluminum. The universe, or RC Gods, or whatever just wants me to take this one slow jamz style, I'm afraid. 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

I seriously feel like if it gets going any slower, it’ll just start disassembling itself back into the bags.. 🤣

I certainly appreciate the props homeslice-if y’all are having half as much fun following along, as I am building, then it’s another win for me foshizzle.

I willlllllllll say this; it does suck knowing I’m only a pair of aluminum nuts (that should’ve been standard issue IMO just like they have been), and about 10dammiitminutes away from having a bare slider.. 🤩

I'd at least express that concern to Tekno. I am sure you're not the only one perturbed by the plastic substitute. Ya gotta stand up for the next generation to come along that gets into Tekno, because what will they cheapen next?

No M3x6mm button head screws needed for spindles/carriers?

EAGLE EYE!!!! They went into the shot AFTER the photo was taken-I spaced out briefly.. If ya zoom in during the install photards-you’ll be able to make out the “YFS 12.9” insignia’s on the heads of them all. 😉

Good dammiit eye brother! 🤘

Nice build been following this closely, While I am not a full on offroad or nitro guy. You deff have one clean build going. I am like this with my oval stuff. I do my setups on the setup boards and scales before and after every race on each car. To record my finish setups and setup for the following weeks races. I then cycle through and have a good starting point for when i go back to that track. But during the season (usually 4-5 races in ) i do a complete tear down, check every bearing. If good i clean and relube them all, if not or questionable they get replaced. The main thing being on oval cars is rolling resistance, and making that as low as possible to be able to carry as much speed through the corner as efficiently as possible.

But this is super nice, clean and a great build thread , kudos to you

Thanks buddy! I really appreciate that! It’s been many years since I competed in dirt oval, but it is definitely very involved.. The “stock” classes were hands down the most competitive, and the LEAST amount “stock”, lol.. Means a lot considering the level of your vehicles. One day I just may own a Custom Works chassis to quench a bit of a nostalgic thirst I have.. I can’t wait for my last order to arrive so that I can get back on this thing! 🍻🤙

that is absolutly true the "stock" classes can be the most brutal as everyone is looking for the advantage over the other guys. So rules often get "bent" in the search for speed. And sometimes those bends can lead to well, breaking ! lmao

And I love the oval community, and honestly i feel oval guys are the most welcoming to new guys wanting to race. While some will say your only making left turns, and while that isn't wrong. But to be the fastest you have to do it the best and the most miniscule mistake can set you back a half of a lap or more, especially when lap times can be as low as 4 secs a lap.

A few of those guys were flying at the Chilli Bowl!!! 👍

Definitely. I can’t even imagine the gap these days-especially with how manicured the majority of tracks have gotten over the years.. 😅

I can relate! Same could’ve for sure been said about me as well until shedding almost 50 bills, back down close to my ol’ fightin’ weight.. 😅

Thanks for putting together the build thread. I always like seeing bits coming together... especially the Tekno RC ones. :thumbs-up::cool: Sometimes, an "Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that?" moment/tip gets shown and I have to possibly try to include it into my regimen.

I think the EB48 2.1 kits were the last to include the keyed aluminum steering rack bushings. I actually forgot about it until you brought it up now, but the composite steering rack bushing has not been an issue... so far 💪.

Well, let's just say I got a lifetime supply of M3x6mm button heads after doing an EB48 2.0 build.

That’s exactly why I do it. Definitely great to hear from other forum family that it’s welcomed for sure! Don’t get me wrong-I love the build process, and sharing, but it’s definitely a fair amount of added steps to put into cyberspace.. 😅

Yeah-I’m sure they’d probably be fine, and as I’ve said; Tekno plastics are absolutely second to none-but with all of my previous builds using the aluminum units-I just couldn’t in good faith, let ‘em ride.. I’ve been compiling, and waiting to do this build for a lonnnnnnng time as is fairly evident in the parts pile shot on the bench in the beginning posts of the thread..😅 I’d lose sleep over it for sure.. It was 15ish degrees here last night, so a few days wait isn’t gonna kill me.

I’ve heard about lots of folks losing the set screws from the previous spindle carriers, and obviously moving up to the button heads for good measure. Some guys were even just doing another set of set screws with success.. Amazingly I never had any issues with mine, and I beat on it like it owed me money (I’m far from a reasonably good driver these days 😂). I reckon the RC Gods were lookin’ after my asss.. I’ve been running the 2.1 carriers, and spindles since that buggy was released though so I moved to the button heads at that time. I’m REALLY looking forward to the rest of this build, sharing my little journey, and finally getting to give some solid feedback on the “really close to” the kit chassis setup-even with the array of aftermarket hardware, and trinkets.. This will be the first one I haven’t put my own setup into right out of the gate. In DECADES..😅

and this isn't even the fast week , wait till next week when the big boys get on the track. This week was the trashxx mudboss shootout , basically all trashx cars/ chassis. I would wager next week you'll see 1/ 1.5 secs shaved off the best lap times

I can't afford to race anything except Spec Slash lol
Getting an oval track near me would be really cool. It would be REALLY crazy if someone built a 5TH scale oval for a 5TH Scale Oval car. With a Cison V8 lol. That'd be the coolest sounding race in RC.
