Post just one Quick tip or Tid-Bit of advice for the RC noobs to read.

If you see the one you were going to post, share another. No long posts just quickies.

When buying tools or other support equipment get the best you can afford. You will use them again and again. If you go cheep you will not only frustrate yourself you will spend more in the long run.

When choosing am r/c do your research first and see what the LHS has to offer and support. If you go nitro, most shops will give you a lesson and free tuneup after break-in (here they do). PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY TEACH YOU!

Take some time to really understand how your R/C is built. Try your hand at a non-assembled "kit" rather than a RTR (ready to run).

Aluminum hopups are not always a good idea.. Choose the parts you upgrade wisely, and always leave plastic between your Aluminum and an impact point as a buffer.
These would be bumper mounts, body posts, steering knuckles, Aarms, etc..

Read the manual. Then read it again. Especially any engine setting and break-in instructions.

Radio Gear

Always switch transmitter on first and off last to avoid a runaway r/c vehicle

That is, when you want to run it ,Transmitter (handset) on first, receiver Second.

When you finish running switch the receiver off first (on/in car) then the transmitter (handset)

AND ALWAYS CHECK EVERYTHING WORKS BEFORE YOU RUN

After running your nitro engine set your piston at BDC bottom dead center, where the piston is all the way down. This will keep your piston from getting pinched by the cylinder and help your engine last longer.

If you don't plan to race and do not have an r/c a monster truck is your best choice. They're more durable and IMO funner.

Always use after run oil when your done for the day.
This will give you longer engine life when added to jesse's advice

Always use the serch button."Its your friend"
Dont get CA glue on your hands, its really sticky.

If you're cutting, sanding or drilling into carbon fiber, wear a mask. The particles can harm your lungs.

========================

If you have carbon fiber parts, sand the edges with 220 grit sand paper to take the edge off and seal it with CA on a q-tip. It will help keep the carbonfiber from delaminating.

Never let your buddy thats prone to breaking things drive your R/C's!!!

Keep your nitro fuel in a cool dark place.
--------------------------------------
Don't let the leads on your battery pack (for electric r/c's) make contact with nything metal or another battery.
---------------------------------------
Keep a check list of everything you'll need for when you go out and check them off as you pack up. Check them again when the day is done.
---------------------------------------
Bring extra plugs.
---------------------------------------
Remember that your engine may need retuning (slightly) during the course of a day
---------------------------------------
Follow the same steps every time you start the car
(If there's others running their cars, check frequencies, if no other operson is there continue with the steps as follows)
1. Turn on the radio
2. turn on the car
3. Check to see if the car is receiving signal by turning the stering wheel and throttle/brake.
4. Prime the car
5. Insert glow ignitor
6. Press her sown on the starter box or Rotostart or Pull start
7. Remove glow starter and let her warm up with a few blips to clear the carb as well
8. To turn her off either Tap the flywheel with a stick, pinch the fuel line or plug the exhaust. Everyone has their preferrence and reasons for one or the other. I've done all three ... at different times of course.
-----------------------------
If you have a runaway and manage to get her back and can' get the cover off... Hold her down and just let the clutch burn itself out while plugging the exhaust stinger. If the exhaust is ripped out, tap the flywheel with the heel of your shoe (if you can manage it or use a stick or even the glow ignitor. end.

Race your competition clean. The win means nothing if you have to run over them to get it.... Its much cooler to have the people you beat congratulate you with a smile.

Keep a stock of spare parts for your choice of rig. If you break something, then you will not have to wait to fix it. Items prone to breaking are suspension arms in the main, but stock a few other parts like bumpers, skids, shock towers.

Also stock shock & dioff oils,

IF RUNNING NITRO you will want to srtock:

air filter oil,
spare glow plugs,
spare exhaust seals,
After run oil,
spare clutch shoes and springs
