lipos for the vxl 3s

i got me a vxl 3s setup and i put it in my rustler, the tranny is all metal gear so no worries there. i am wanting to make the truck stoopid fast and i am gonna get a 3s lipo for it. but i am wanting to know what discharge rate i should get, i want atleast a 5000 mah for long run times. it would be neat if it was able to leave black marks or do smoky burn outs! i am looking for some good advise about the batt and trans tunning to achieve what i am after. thanks for all the help, nick

The VXL charts from Traxxas say 20C.
I got a 2S, 20c for my Rustler a week ago and it is fun as hell. 3S should be ridiculous. Make sure your tires are glued on well. You'll probably need a 31t pinion and 76t spur for a 3s.

Actually all that really matters for speed is the continuous and peak ratings on the speed controller itself. Which in the case of the VXL-3s is 200A continuous, and 320A peak. Without going into a huge topic that's been covered before, for example an 8000mah 10c pack and a 4000mah 20c pack will both put down 80A continuous. To peg the speed meter on a VXL system, Traxxas recommends 160A continuous.

I run 4000mah 20c 3S packs on my VXL pede, and it's retarded fast.

I would go with a C rating that is as high as you can afford, most of the guys that race at my local track with brushless setups are running 30C or higher lipo packs, it will give you more punch and be less likely to swell up from being over discharged.

I just put a 5300 mAh 25c 3s in my VXL Slash, I'm surprised I didn't blow the tires off.

I can't imagine that. I have a full REM 1/8 conversion, and it's ridiculous. Really makes you learn throttle control, that's for sure.

i have a rustler vxl with a maxamps lipo 3s 5250mah its wicked fast can't get over half throttle cause it reaches the end of my street to fast p.s you will need lost of tire glue and new wheels they balloon so mutch they fly of the rims!!

well i found me a lipo batt this morning, 3s 40c and 5000 mah, from hobbpartz.com.... my vision ultra peak will charge the lipo but doesn't have a balancer on it. i am now looking for a good balancer thats pretty cheap, i have plans in the future to get the sky charger that hobbypartz as soon as i can get the wife to give me my allowance, lol. thanks for all the input and help.

The Astro Blinky is a decent and inexpensive balancer.
