I have store charged my lipos and when I check them on my voltage checker my cells read three different numbers! For example 3.88,3.77,3.66. They never seem to be the same voltage all the way across, and they are newer lipos! Are they bad Lipos?

The LiPo could be bad, but it could also be your charger, what charger do you use?

Also I just a Limitless and I am planning running a 50 tooth ceter diff with a 20 th what speeds do u think I will get? I am not trying to do Speed runs just bashing

I see in your profile pic that u have a typhon on grp tires! What speeds do u achieve and what is your gearing

What lipos are they? What is the IR of the each of the cells? How long has it been since you storage charged them vs when you voltage checked them?

The LiPo is probably bad, check the internal resistance of the cells.

Not sure about gearing with the Limitless as I don’t have one.

My Typhon 3s is actually running the Duratrax Speedtreads Robber tires here. They would probably explode on 6s though. I’m using 18/57 gearing, I haven’t tested the top speed yet.

I wouldn't say the lipo is bad just yet. Try to balance the cells via a slow charge like at 2.0 Amps and see if they balance and hold up

Regarding when to take a LiPo out of service? Have 2s x 5000 50C that hit age 37 months. Is there a recommended time limit or rule-of-thumb for removal from service? I have no way to measure IR of the battery. Battery still charges to 8.4V at 4.2/4.2 balance and after use voltage balance is ~0.01/0.03 difference between cells.

My rule of thumb is to remove a battery from service at 36 months and place in extended storage. Am I retiring the battery too soon? Regards. 'AC'

AC,
I think tnt is trying to say you need a charger that can read IR's. Generally, your IR's will climb with use. If your IR's are fine, you are ok to continue to use.

With that said though, typically when the IR's start to go out of whack, you will start to see puffing. I would continue using them if your batteries aren't puffing. I have batteries older than 6 years that still work fine.

But you really should get a charger that reads IR's. It is your first line of defense against bad things happening.

dint realize you took over this post.when a battery doesn't give you the performance that it once had. unless you buy a ir meter or charger.

No problemo. Yeah, piggy-backing this thread easier than starting a new one. Not sure I want to buy another charger right now. Guess I'll just hang with Kevin's puff recommendation and your performance loss one.

For now, that 37-month-old battery stays inactive as back-up. Take it out and cycle it every three months or so. Pitch it at 48 months either way. Don't like having any more LiPo's in the shop than I need. Trying to hold to four. Two shorty and two regular.

Have a new 2s x 5300 60C cycled today. It goes on the active list. More mAh than I wanted, though. It was rated at 60C over the 5000's 50C. 5000mAh is my standard, but selection of them is thinning. Everything seems to be going 6000 and above. Which makes them dimensionally larger and heavier. Neither of which I need for what I do.

Anyway, thanks for weighing in guys. Always good getting another opinion or two. Cheers and Regards. 'AC'

I would keep using them as long as they arent puffed. I have 6 or 7 lipos hanging around that are 10+ years old. Granted they dont perform anywhere near what they did and I wouldnt use them in any sort of high performance applications but like the old 2S packs I have for example work just fine in my 2WD Rustler. The IRs on those packs are between 9-12mOhm so definitely long in the tooth but theres no puffiness and they still give decent run times in average condition kits so I'll continue to use them until they either get puffy or until the runtime becomes moderately degraded even under average loads. Just my .02
