Lipo balncer

Just about to buy my first lipo battery and charger and just wondering if a lipo balancer is absolutely necessary.

I only balance my bigger packs. I've charged some of my smaller crawler packs probably a few hundred times without ever balancing them. Not saying its not a good thing to do, but I only take the time on my big 3000+ mah lipo's.

Before I bought my balance charger, I used to balance my packs about every second or third charge. I'm still running those same packs 2 years later.

I use an Astro Blinky stand alone Balancer. I plug it into the balance port of my LIPO packs, then charge like normal. Works great.
