right pretend i know nothing about lipo and quite a bit about nimh...
what is the story with lipos
can i charge them off a charger for nimh batteries? (every mention of lipos always says balance?)
do they have different connectors?
would they be a direct drop in in place of a car that has been using nimh batteries?
stable voltage?

thinking about using the ez-start in my t-maxx to work with a losi ROSS and converting the nimh to lipo batteries for starting and running servos.

venom make a 2000 mah Lipo reciever pack that will fit into the maxx reciever. Losi also makes a voltage regulator that reduces the voltage to 6.0 volts, making it suitable for a traxxas radio. This is how my maxx radio is set up, and its great.

How the ROSS setup works with a traxxas radio... I dont know. You may need the spectrum radio. The spectrum can handle the higher voltage of a Lipo.

As far as venom goes, I hate not heard to much good about them. Who else has used them?

Sent from my Pipboy-3000 in the Capital Wasteland.

I've run several venom lipo batteries and have only had one swell on me. It was my own fault though. Dropped it. Still ran fine for several runs before I destroyed it.

I run Venom 3s packs in my mERV with great success and no problems.

In my opinion its a 1 off type of deal.. they do produce a much larger amount of voltage over NIMH. However they seem to require alot more maintenance than NIMH, they always need to be discharged after use if they arent discharged already from being used. i have heard of lipo's catching fire or exploding for multiple reasons and you need to be careful with how you charge them.

Over all i feel like if you just wanna be able to use an NIMH and toss it in your bag and use the next one with out worrying if it was properly discharged or catching fire. Personally i dont really find it necessary to run a lipo on nitro vehicles how ever if your planning on doing a ross conversion maybe it wouldnt be to bad.

Have you looked on teh bottom of a laptop lately? They are all using lipo batteries now. I was nervous about going lipo but after seeing what was in 2 of my laptops I'm good to go. Especially since my battery charger just destroyed 8 new nimh batteries on me...

laptops use Lithium Ion batteries which are a little more stable than Lithium Polymer batteries. Still though, while there is always a chance that a lipo could catch fire they usually do not do so unless they suffer some catastrophic event that shorts out 2 or more of the cells. Typical crash damage (if the cell is damaged) usually just results in puffing and can be disposed of without much risk. Just dont try and charge or run a puffed pack and you'll be fine. Lipos are pretty tough though. I have one main 6S pack I use for trial runs of my high speed Rustler and it has been thrown out of the kit at high speeds many times and its still in perfect working order. Granted the shrink wrap is scuffed up pretty good but other than that its a healthy lipo and still has pretty low IR readings on all 6 cells.

yea they are starting to move back to lipo, the ipads all use lipo also.
the electronics monitoring the batteries are more advance now, than what they was in the big name laptop years ago.

Didnt sony have to recall laptops because their batteries were gettin too hot and blowin peoples block and tackle's off?

it was sony's lithium ion battery's that was the cause of all the fires by bad manufacturing. a lot of companies used their batteries. Dell being the biggest.

Hear/Say. I've had more NiMh batteries rupture on me than lipo. You let the internet make you scared. Its really not what people say they are.

Kinda like the retards that say guns kill people, so ban all guns.
