Last fall, I got the wild hair up my behind to actually make an RC body. It's not that rough of a process from what I can tell, but making the mold "IS" most of the work and an artistic hand is needed to pull it off.

I've such things.

So... we'll just share a little something I call The Shellabascher Model 50. (shellabasher.... it's body shell bashing ... like kit bashing. I smashed a few wasted bodies together to make something rather unique)

Never mind my process here, it was janky.

...but the results are pretty neat.

it fits all short course trucks... and when done, will fit either them... OR drag cars. More soon.

I may market this one.

To add: Basically, I took a few trashed bodies and taped them in a way that appeared to look like something neat.

next, I filled the inside with foam and let it dry.

Then, making a mess... I sunk the thing upside down in a box just big enough for it... filled with plaster of paris.

The original taped version came out in pieces, but I had the overall shape.

Then I fiberglassed the inside of that plaster mold... 2 layers... and pulled it out just as it kicked.

The rest, is just inner wood & bits to keep its shape while I make it right.

Once done with that, we'll tape up the sides, and fill it again with something (foam, probably) to keep it stiff enough for a test.

Once a real body is formed over it, I can then use that to make another mold to mess with and make perfect. Takes forever... but it is working.

If it works out, I'll do this body (with rear bracing & such)... then the WAGON version. (think chevy nomad here) I miss the old cars & bodies.

Nicely done!

I really hope dB is paying attention!

Nomad and the Buicks were semi overlooked and possibly the best of that tri-five era!
This body is a cool take on that old look!
I might be interested if we can find one to fit my optima mid! 👍🏻
Thanks. I think that original 55 body is the best one might find for the optima mid if you chop it a bit. I had one here from long ago and just wanted to throw the 50's flair at this. Parma, of course is making new things but they're kind of... lifeless. I've other plans to for some other bodies that do not exist... and they're fun. Stay tuned.

I like it, make some more and send me one for let’s say…. Science?
When I finalize this thing, of course man. They're bodies, they get beat up. That's why I'm doing this. Recreating any existing body is simple. I'm just tired of buying them because I drive & race a lot. I've my own track.

I want to make bodies and I'm an artist.

Parma went out of business. They were bought by these guys. Great folks, and they have brought back the Faskolor paints! Not sure if they have plans to to anything else with the brand. More info here 😁

Oh, it seems maybe they are making bidies again!

I’d like to see more Datsun stuff. Like a Datsun 510 or a 620 pickup that fits a 1/10 sct chassis for an on road set up. What you are doing I have thought about many times just haven’t started the project!
I will be watching this, keep it up!

I love the old MRP, Parma and Bolink bodies!
J Concepts, Sabula and Team Blue Groove are all making vintage bodies that I really like! We are lucky there's still a market for this fun old stuff and its availible today!
Cool Frankenbody!!! 😎

Will do. I set out to just do this for me. If it benefits anyone or people want em, I'll sell em but I don't set expectation all that high. Just doing it for fun.

I do think a 510 or 620 could be pulled off... but as you know... making the mold is the time consumer and getting things right so it's a winning look that some might want. Personally, I could whip up anything here. A datsun 620 huh? An SC version would be neat... wouldn't it. It's one cool truck.

Thats cool .... I wonder if you could 3d print a body you want to use it to make the mold negative to then make lexan bodies from ???? HMMMMMM
My printer is limited to a 9x9x9 cube, for a miniz it would work!
Whoops looks like I have shown my plate number. All my info is out there now 😳

I don't know why more companies out there don't do up some Datsun truck bodies. One of the coolest little trucks ever. The Ford Courier is pretty awesome too. This was originally going to be a Datsun pickup.
