I don't know what happened here guys...I had this RG broken in on a stand by a guy that does good poop..all my friends have him do custom poop and repinches and stuff like that...so I know he didn't fiddlesticks it up..I trust him....anyway when I got it back it felt friggen amazing...8th tank and it screamed like no other RG I had before this one...it was great.....last saturday I was stalling out and couldn't get it to stay running again for more then 3/4 tank but it fired right back up sometimes it was acting up and just cutting out 3 time in a row...I leaned out the top a few times throught the day and it came in once at 250 bone dry.....hottest it was all day....and tonite I check the compression cold and I feel mechanical pinch at the top but no real compression pinch....it sounds decent..Ihave to let it idle a littel high but it doesn't move......I get 1/2 tanks now running in the street w/ road tires......the compression is just not there...Does anyone know if these are shimmed for 30% out of the box.....I left teh mill at my friends to pinch it and I can't check it for how many shims it has...I was told they are ready to run 30% out of the box......just trying to figure out why this thing went so quick....
 
hmmmm..... I had an rg for about 3/4 gal and it was THE BEST. Try taking out a shim. It might help. If it doesn't i'd send it back to os. They should last MUCH longer.
 
sounds to me like the engine took a while to loosen up completely, or it injested dirt. if leaning the lsn, changing the plug, and checking for leaks doesn't reveal anything. then perhaps look at the finish on the piston skirt and sleeve walls. there can be scoring that doesn't allow compression, while the engine still has pinch. keep in mind some motors loosen up all at once and will go rich on you mid run. a retune of the hsn and lsn is required at that point.

also make sure your checking pinch with the plug out and cold, and compression hot with the plug in.
 
plug out and cold it's only got a little of the mechanical pinch...you know the metal resistance....hot and plug in it's almost non existant....cold and pllug in w/ ARO it's way too easy..I can turn it with my pinky w/ almost no resistance.....it's done....but it looks brand new....and buggy if it's an issue of it being shimmed for 20% instead of 30 like I use then I would be adding a shim if anything....If I took one out I would have premature detonation......I'm still waiting to hear from fantom on my .27 being returned or getting it warranteed......

I might just buy a friends mill to run in the meantime....I put almost 2 gallons on this mill in 3 days running.....so I'm sceptical of buying used mills...... even the Vz-b....I wasn't all that impressed w/ them enough t obuy new but for 150 ready to drop in...new CB and shoes, bearings , springs...I might do it.....
 
before you do anything else, pull a thin shim out of the RG. also if you can, take some pics of the piston and inner part of the sleeve. with cold mechanical pinch, you should have lots of compression with the plug in. something isnt sealing properly. or your breakin was faulty. the mechanical interferance is there for the compression, but the quality of seal isnt. what plug btw, McCoys are known to leak straight through the plug sometimes.
 
my vspec btw, has no cold pinch at all, it hasnt since 3/4 gallon. however it has great compression cold and very good hot, still runs like hell. OS's arent like italian motors which are considered ready for a squeeze when the cold pinch is gone.
 
my os vsb lost its pinch and carl had a cpl of wore out 21 engines so we split a pinching tool.. carl pinched a cpl of his engines to get the feel for it and then did mine.. i will let you feel the pinch my pinched motor has..its running great..
but you may have other issues.. and i think i have read where people are pitching the xray gas tank and puttin an mbx 5 tank on .. can't remember exactly.
 
I know my OS 21 RG lost it's hot pinch at about 3 gallons, but I ran it for another 5. Long thread of getting it re-pinched recently around here somewhere.

I didn't loose cold pinch completely until about gallon 5.

The last two gallons had compression like a hole in the piston (none) when starting cold or hot but it still ran pretty dependable.

The reason I got it pinched is because it just started flaming out for no reason and temps became erratic. It would flame out at 200 or 270, basically whenever it felt like it.

For gallons 0-6, I kept the temps between 210 and 260.
 
I found what the problem is....the bushing in th econrod swung 90 deg....I caught it in time to prevent real damge....and there was only one shim in it...don't sound like it's ready to run 30% to me.....that's probably what made my last one go too...the bushing in that one was just powder...I mean it literally just crumbled out of the conrod......I think Monday is new engine day again......I gotta do some serious thinkin on this one though......rich did U go to the state race today??? and are U goin to the misfit track this week???...if I get brian to break in a new mill monday I'm gonna be there...I'm hoping to get a P5....but leaning toward V-spec
 
why not throw in a new conrod, and measure your head clearance, you want roughly .028" for 30%.
 
I think I'm gonna do that now anyway..I just found out it wasn't my servo that died it was from the Tx that the brakes aren't working.....so I need a new radio tomorrow too...I'll be sending this one back to futaba for warantee....I never dropped it.....no scratches and I have a pelican case it fits in perfectly w/ foam
 
yea i went to the state race eric.. was super fun .. had an awesome time..
cept the track was super technical and very hard for me to learn fast,,, i was so far off my Agame in the qualifiers..but i qualified 2nd in the b main tho so not too bad ,, but the sun went down and so did my lap times.. i finally got the feel for the track and runing tq lap times and was really in my groove but in the one long sweeper i was hugging the pipe and couldnt see that there was a 45 degree elbow sticking out and i wacked it with my front left tire at a real high speed and it ripped my hub carrier right off the pin.... the amain was a spoof .. darn revo won lol.. the two real fast truggies were having motor trouble .. Sean Kersten from our track won both production mt and unlimited mt with the same revo ..lol
i had such a great time tho .. can't wait for the next big race..
 
you goin to the misfit track again?? LOL you gotta tell me what that was about.....I dunno if you heard all the drama last saturday....
 
dude i heard more stories..like this one ...lol.... dante got hit in the head with a tool box and called the cops on the dude.. lots of drama at that track. . but i will most likely be there .

yeah I was there for that...it was a joke.... and bobby tried to take jovan out in the main for crashing into him in th e2nd heat...funny stuff I thought...I told him if you want to race in the ghetto don't cry when you get hit.....LOL...
