I'm working on installing a new OS in 2 Dell Latitudes. One is working out fine, but the other will not boot. When I open the BIOS battery door, the one that works has memory installed in there, and the other does not. Is that just for extra memory? Is there memory installed INSIDE the comp?
I'm told I need to run Setup, but F2 does nothing.

If there is 2 empty slots there is no memory. If there is only 1, then there is another slot under the keyboard.

Dose the the nonworking one try to boot from the hard-drive?

If it dose swap hard-drives and install on the same computer twice, nut make sure the other will boot first.(Dell is finicky about these things)

This is what's in there. Sorry, but I don't work on laptops so I'm a bit lost on this.

Yep. That is slot B. Slot A should be under the keyboard.

You said the other one had memory in that slot. If they are similar models (Both use DDR2) you can put the ram from the other in this one.

Also, it appears as though you are missing the screws that hold the wi-fi card in place.

Out of curiosity, what OS are you going with?

I just finished installing XP Pro in the other one. No problems.
I'm just going to give this one back to her, since she knew nothing about it. Someone gave it to her.
Every time I tried booting it I was told there was a configuration error and to run Setup. Can't do it, and I'm tired of dealing with it.
The other laptop is ready to go, and I don't want to risk messing with his hard drive, so I'm not about to do anything else.
Thanks for your help and information.
