If the money makes sense, I see no issues with having extras in hand! Beats the beck out of having to wait and then the shipping costs etc... Def let us know how it goes!

It's not necessarily a common item to have to replace if you stay on top of the shoes as part of regular maintenance. The bearings are probably more likely to go. If you were to change to a metal or even some composite type shoes, replacing the bell can become a LOT more common. I am not familiar with your kit but you may find that size bearing also fits other locations in the car.

How often does CB go out?

Not very often ,you can clean the inside up ,an scuff it up with some emery cloth or some sand paper
that you might have laying around!
Just as long as the teeth isn't damaged ,the groove really doesn't pose a problem!...

Normally people will change the bell to change the tooth count to alter torq & speeds!

Def should make mention... You need to be sure the gears stay in a proper mesh as part of the maintenance as well.
Yes, as @cbaker65 said, they are commonly swapped out as performance alterations.

Ok, all good information and so awesome site to get good advice.

On A whole different subject I've recently acquired a 1/5 scale gas Rovan Baja 5b. Do any of you have any experience using wire mesh filters, See attach picture. Are these maintenance free or do I still have to take filter out and clean it using compress air.

I've got rid of the foam filter that came with 1/5 Baja and paid like $25 for this filter assy. Looks cool on buggy but not sure how it will perform...apologize if reach out to wrong group but I can't find any review on this setup online or Amazon, eBay.

I heard those are bad ,if that is a paper filter ,then its no good ,you can't clean them ,also its bad because theres no
pre-filter over it.
The best ones are the sponge type ,so they can be properly cleaned & maintained!..
Although ,they do look cool for display!...:D

Ok, I'll check the material for sure.... I might put originals back on. I'll do more research.... you all have a good week. Later

The only kind of 'maintenance free' filters are ones that you simply use and then throw away. Where it is wire mesh and from what I see in the pic, it is a wire and paper filter. Depending on how fine the paper is, (what micron it will filter out) it may work ok but I would plan on using it up and tossing it.
I apparently failed to bookmark their site but I'm sure @Rolex could give us the name of the filter manufacturer who just recently joined our forum. They make an excellent filter by the specs I have read. There are a LOT of folks who swore by the prior to their joining as well as after. I am going to be purchasing for my rigs as well.
Filters are not something you want to go for the 'low dollar' one or for looks alone. This applies to nitros, 2 stroke and 4, and not for your 1:1 cars or trucks! You would be surprised at how much damage occurs from a tiny piece of dirt/stone/metal flake! Keep in mind that in the nitro, you are dealing with high RPM and soft metal sleeves. Even in a 2 and 4 stroke rc, the rpms are high and make the engine a little more suseptable to damage than your typical 1:1 motor.
IMO, if you find there is any question about the quality of the filter, pull it off and save it for when the rig is on display during the winter. It Def looks cool but as I've covered here, looks aren't the main goal. Once you see the other filters I'm talking about, I believe you'll see my point.

http://www.knfilters.com/mobile/filter_facts.aspx#FACTS

This link has LOTS of good info about what I'm talking about. It shows what the differences are between a good filter for performance vs overkill (where the filter is so tight that it restricts performance, choking the engine out) and lots of other little tidbits of info.
While I list this site for their info, there are a lot of ppl who used a K&N oil breather as an air filter... DO NOT DO THIS!!! An oil breather has VERY LITTLE filtration capabilities. These look super cool and that is where it stops unfortunately.
Do your research and you'll find the products that will provide a long and happy life for all your fuel powered rc, maybe even your 1:1's.:thumbs-up:

Thank you Mike for detail explanation. Yeah I'll definitely do more research on my own before deciding whether to stay with this setup or possibly just go back to foam filter setup from factory, I apologize for posting this under wrong forum as this question related to 2 stroke gas engine air filter. I am sure regardless nitro or gas, same theory applies.

The theories Def do apply for pretty much anything that has an air intake and moving parts!;) While I am not a mod, I'm sure they would agree and prob won't move this. The mods here are all good guys!
Obviously, it's your rig and you will do what works for you best. At least this way, you're making an educated decision. That's one of the reasons I love this forum! I have learned a lot and have shared a lot. I am kind of an information addict!

Mike,
Good stuff, thanks a bunch again. I agree with you the more information share someday I'll be able to help other newbies as well. I haven't been a member on this forum for that long but I find the community to be thriving and really want to help others. Awesome!

I have a baja ,an the original filter housing is a pain in the a$$ to get off & clean ,so I think that's part of
what makes a person want to change it out!
I myself had been wanting to change mine out for that very reason!

I don't see any reason that you can't use a paper filter to where it will damage the engine ,that is not the case!
The case is ,you can't clean paper once it get oil soaked ,an 2 stroke engine emit oil & fuel out of the carb.!
Also ,RC's are ran in harsh conditions ,dirt ,sand an dusty areas!

On a 1.1 vehicle ,the engines don't ,so they can easily be cleaned with air!

Hey CBaker,

I don't know if you looked at my setup. I thought posted a picture but I'll post it again in case. It's made by "top speed Rc world" and do search on amazon for filters, it'll come up. It's not paper filter that's for sure, all aluminum mesh. Let me know what you think... seller tells me good reviews but then I don't see any posted. I take his feedback grain of salt but the unit looks well constructed. For $25.00 it looks really bad a$$ but question is will it perform... to clean, soap and water. It has a tight seal with rubber neck and hose clamp. The yellow dome is tight against the fuel tank and took some time get it seated. It might just be I am doing it wrong as it came with no instructions... I find that typical of Chinese made parts. I'll be interested to hear from your opinion on my setup. See link below;

That is a nice filter ,I maybe interested in that one ,I see its not paper ,so it can be cleaned!
The way the housing is ,it helps shed the debris.
I would use that one!...:thumbs-up:

I just wanted to let people be more cautious of the products that may harm their RC's is all!..

Thanks for feedback on this item. Good to have second opinion on my purchase. Agreed, I sure don't want to install anything inferior that 1) doesn't work to keep fine particles out and 2) hard to maintain. #2 is still out for jury. I'll let you know over time.... my problem is finding time to go have fun! Plus side is looks more compact with see thru housing even though reality it's not unless run without dome housing which I won't do.

I'll send you a picture Of my Baja this evening so you can see it as whole.

Cool ,Its a nice baja of what little I do see in the pic ,its almost not fun if your worried about getting it dirty though!...LOL
Mine is not that clean ,its been in one too many fields!.....:p

Mine is brand new, order it a month ago with upgrade aluminum shock towers and exhaust pipe that wraps around to front (if you can picture it)... not the big ass tailpipe that you see hanging off rear. It's got some upgrade components already from factory.

I've tried not to go crazy with upgrades before even breaking it in first tank. It was eBay purchase, offer 590$ As was listed for 649.99$. I think did ok for price....see attach pic of setup

Nice....I see they came a long ways when it comes to looks!
I see that that filter system is way easier to remove for maintenance ,the old style is
a pain!
I bought mine 5 or 6 years ago ,an it doesn't look that good ,however ,my body parts are still new an unpainted ,
I never used it ,I beated the hell out of mine ,an didn't break nothing yet!...:D

Nice looking Baja an for great price still!...
