Think i'll be going with Savage SS Truck:

Savage SS Truck
HPI Reverse Module
Hi-Tec 645MG Steering Servo
Hi-Tec 625MG Throttle/brake Servo
Radio Controller 3 channel (TF-4 off ebay if I can’t find/afford a decent one)
Duratrax Infared Temp Guage
Duratrax 250cc fuel bottle
Hobbico after run oil 2oz
Fuel 20% 3 quarts (enough for break in - some winter fun)
Glow plug ignitor
Dubro In-line fuel filter – blue
Duratrax air filter oil
12AA batteries for remote control/receiver (for now)

all from towerhobbies.com with $40-50 off

because they want so much dough for these puppies here in canada, i'm buying from US and having my dad's friend hook me up by bringing it up when he comes up end of november.

what about a 7.2v pack for your starting system? ignitor would only be needed for the savage, revo has it built into the ezstart. i would also say 4 gallons of fuel. its cheaper in bulk. you will pay the same for the 3 quarts you listed as 1 gallon of pretty much anything.

thanks, forgot the ignitor for the savage only, added to list at top. fuel, i'll have to see if i can find a better price for a few gallons. the 6-cell battery pack and charger is for the Revo starter ez start. the transmitter is 12AA but i already have those, so never added to list.

don't think i'll honestly get to use much more then 3-4 quarts/Litres during the winter season here. i'm only gonna run it when the road or driveway is plowed or very light snowfall (less then 2") so that dosen't leave much running time until spring here. in spring/summer then i'll be buying a few gallons for the summer time.

i believe this is all that i'd need to start, if i missed something please let em know...and thanks again for everyones help.

Make sure when u get yo truck , that u get somethin' 2 clean it w/. I went bashing the first day i got my tmaxx an ddint have nuttin 2 clean it w/.

i left that out on purpose since its a hardware store trip for that. i also wanted to add that if i go with the Savage SS same list as above minus the traxxas glow plug and also the battery stuff, since its pull start on the SS, this saves $43 alone. (needs radio and servo's though).

the savage ss is nice if you want to buld a kit. you can buy the airtronics mx-3 if you plan on getting the optional reverse or you can buy an airtronics blazer about $50 check the f/s trade threads I'm not sure of recenlty but there may be a good deal there.

how are the Hitec 645MG servo's? saw these recommended on hpi forum by hpi staff. ebay $38ea (brand new with all parts in box) need 2 of these or one of these and one less powerful one? this would leave about $40-$50 for controller.

I'm not an mt guy but i think that those have alot of torque. if that them then take 1 for a steering servo. then you could just leave the throttle one stock. or get a faster one

Air filter oil and a Fuel Filter is cheap insurance. If your going with the Savage I would also spend 20 bucks for the motorsaver air cleaner the stock one sucks.

is the glow plug ignitor needed with pull-start of the savage SS? also yes, the air filter oil and fuel filter will be purchased as well.

also i'd only have to buy the steering servo (hi-tec 645MG) right along with remote right?

Well you need a throttle/brake servo as well? I'm guessing the kit has NO servos,so the Hitec 625 is a cheap/decent servo for this. Also you need batteries for the reciever(in the truck). I would say do a NiHM rechargable pack but the 4 AA batteries for it will do fine for now. And yes,you need a glow ingnitor for the Savage. The Revo has an EZ start so its not needed for that.

So you need:
1. steering servo 645MG
2. throttle/brake servo 625MG
3. Glow ing.
4. Radio/reciever......Sometimes when you buy these they come w/some servos, youll have to look http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=44028&item=5933367482&rd=1
5. 12 batteries I would say get a rechargable reciever pack when $$ is there
6. fuel
and all the other stuff you said.

I'm not that familiar with the Savage. Does it have the servo saver built into the steering bellcranks?? If not then you would need to purchase a servo saver. These things are not universal, so you will need to get one that will fit whatever steering servo you decide on.

Mr T

The stock servo saver for the Savage is right on the servo its self. It is a very crappy servo saver but if he gets a HS-645 it should do him fine. Thats what I run.

i've decided to hold-off on the reverse module ($35) so i can put the money towards the radio controller (its more important). i'll just grab the reverse module at a later date.

i'm not sure if it has a throttle/brake module, i left a message for hpi on their forum just to confirm. i want to get all parts needed so when i get it, i can fire it up (after reading the manual on break-in of course, hehe)

as for batteries for the reciever, i'll be going rechargable NiMH 12 pack. that should provide lots of juice at 2300Mah for 4.

oh, and thanks for the link psunitro, i'll keep an eye on that. what are some other good controllers within about $60 used or new (can't see a controller getting alot of abuse).

You will need to get a 3 channel radio if you want to use the reverse module....I think....
