Is this an OK charger/power supply for my Spektrum DX8 battery?

I recently acquired a DX8 Gen 2, with the battery shown in the attached photo. It's my understanding that you do not want to plug in a "charger" into the battery, because the transmitter has a charger built-in. You want to plug in a "power supply" to charge the battery.

So, last night I plugged in what I believe is a "power supply" (see attached photo) that I had lying around into the battery, and it charged it up to 8.4 volts, the full charge. (I know that a 12 volt unit would be faster, but this is what I have.)

My question is whether the device I plugged in is indeed a power supply, and not a charger. Because I don't want to fry anything. It does say "power unit" on the label, so I think I am ok. But I just thought I would ask.

Hmmm, what does the manual say? I'm sure the transmitters take 12 volts with the AA batteries, and yeup there is the option to plug in the rechargable battery. Check your manual.

If you're going to plug in to the battery you need a power brick that is 12v and 500 mA. As for plugging in to the radio to charge the battery you'd have to check the manual for the radio

Thanks. You don't plug into the radio itself for the DX8 to charge the radio's battery; you plug directly into the battery itself. (It can stay in the unit while charging.)

And I found out that as you state, a 12V power supply (not a "charger") is recommended. (Although the 9V power supply that I have did seem to work.)

I have the prodogy 610 and the venium chargers that handle those dangerous LIPos in the charging dept. I keeps the batteries in a lipo safe just in case something weird happens. I check the batteries once a month for its storage charge just to be safe.
