Infraction 6s on a banked oval track.

Getting some details added. I like to have an indicator light for the battery. Plus the little red light looks kinda cool.

Everything is checking out pretty good. 2deg of camber on all four corners. I might change that after I drive it . I have a lot of caster but I’m leaving that for now.
Ride height is down between 15-20mm.

It scales out well .
The heavy one is a stock Infraction. If I try to remove weight from the right rear I add it to the left front. Because the motor and servos are on the right side.
This chassis is totally left side bias so it scales out for oval racing very well and 400 grams lighter is nice. Same body.

The race tonight was canceled due to rain. But I get there early enough to got a bunch of testing done.

The rig is fast but not great. On 3S it is solid and pretty fast. I am able to drive anywhere on the track. And the tires are happy.
4S is a differs story the acceleration is great but then I’m going to fast and I have to let up. Once you let off the throttle the backend starts to rotate and I can make a tighter turn. But that put a lot of heat into the tires.
Plus there is a noticeable bounce form the back that can’t be helping.
I can’t race with the back end this loose. Gotta fix this.
First off I am going with the GRP MX7 rather than the MX4. Higher number is hotter temp reacting. But there are harder.
I made a five minute full speed test going as fast as I could on 4S. After the test I pulled the body. I could touch the motor and ESC but could not touch the tires. They were hot. Motor 150 deg and the ESC is at 170. So I’m safe there. But I won’t last three races with the tires.

So I got hotter tires
I am going to go to a softer spring in the rear. Thicker oil ?
Gotta look into the three differential oil weights and try to get the front end to over steer under power. Without spinning the tires.

I did not get a timer running but if you look at the power curves the giant dips are the corner entry. They are four seconds apart. Five seconds is a really fast lap. If this is running fives out of the gat I am happy with that.

getting ready for the next race Saturday night under the lights. I got the hotter temp rating tires and a stiffer rim.
Now I just have to pray for good weather.

Friday night is indoor carpet oval. Running four cars
Saturday is outdoor asphalt oval. Running two cars
Sunday morning is outdoor off-road dirt. Running three cars .
That’s nine cars on three tracks in seventy two hours.

First race I lost the wheels on my short corse truck.
Then the infraction I was starting on the pole. Got hit twice and spun out. I managed a forth place finish against actually fast cars. Should be better in the next heat. .
This is a big race. The Firecracker 500. About seventy five cars.

I got out to the track last night . Not my best night. Sprained ankles made walking and standing difficult.
But the cars did really well. My stadium truck is dialed . It has to complete against a 1/8 buggy that is really fast. So it’s a battle for second really. And I got third .

With the big infraction all the tuning made improvements. The first heat I was on 3 s and just could not compete but was was flying. For the second heat I switched to 4s and won the heat.

In the main even I was in second place and closing in. I got a little wide on the last lap and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I sent into the fence on the back stretch. No damage but no podium either.

Next change is to move the battery from the left side to the right rear. Another driver said I have to much left side bias and need more weight in the right rear. We will see.

Thanks gotta stay off it now.

These do great in the track .
They are better to race against each other. They are hard to get to turn under power.
They eat tires if you drive aggressive .
At twelve pounds the 1/8 scale on road cars bounce off it like a misquote.

By the looks of it, maybe you could have done well to stay rested all weekend!? I would NEVER suggest someone miss a race though! Lol!
I was surprised that you were allowed to run 6s. I don't run 1/8th but I THOUGHT they were all down to 4s. I thought you would have the same rule.
Its crazy that the tires get all heated like 1:1 tires! I bet that helps keep the car glued too!

I'm assuming you got that x-rayed. Looks like it smarts a bit.

Thanks everyone It does not hurt much just sore. The toes turned blue as blood settles. I have been doing rest ice elevation and full blown racing . And it’s getting better. Blue is all gone. Just sore and swollen. I don’t think I need a doctor. It’s getting better .

I am really excited about changing the battery location. It makes sense that moving weight to the back right would help. Can’t wait to see. Definitely going with new tires also.

Thanks I hate doctors. I have busted myself up racing motorcycle and bicycles. I know nothing is broken. And I don’t think anything is torn. It actually feels better and the color is back to normal. I am over doing it and it’s still getting better. I believe in movement and LOTS of water and vitamin s when healing broken bones and pulled tendons. Torn ligaments are much worse than this. I’ll give it three or four weeks to heal.

I took the advice of a fellow race with MUCH more experience than me racing oval and on this track in particular. He said I should move the battery to the right side. He says I have to much weight on the left side. My argument was I was setting it up like a giant carpet oval pan car: his point is there is unlimited traction on the carpet. And I need to get the weight on the tire.

This poses one minor problem. I can’t run two motors for land speed. But I can run 6s with what I have and it does not look like they are having the speed run this year anyhow. So the twin motor is out and I moved the battery from left front to right rear. Look how much more even the weight is. I also moved the weight inboard a lot .

This is without adjusting anything on the springs. Just the weight shift. I will tune a little to lighten the right front. But before the left front was carrying all the weight and the right rear was spinning coming out of the turn.
