I have a Nitro Stampede as my first truck....I want to get a new one that is faster...I was looking at either the Revo or the T-maxx both with the TRX 3.3...Which is better for bashing and a little racing...Or...what r some other good and reliable trucks for under like $650...Thanx...

your using the words "tmaxx" and "reliable" in the same sentence? lol. I personally have had nothing but bad experience with tmaxx', 2.5 and 3.3's. I know alot of people really like the revo's and brushless erevo's if you wanted to go electric.

Thanx but i want to stay away from electric unless its a crwaler...but i think i might the revo...better suspension style and just a little better looking from my point of view..

For bashing you really can't seem to go wrong with an HPI Savage X4.6 or XL5.9 the X is just about 470 and the xl is about 570 depending on where you buy it.Me and a few of my friends have thema dn they do take a real good beating they are just plain fun you dont get into to much breakage till you start upgrading mills and going to twin mills like one of my buddy's savage is.Good luck with whatever you pick up for your next truck

Thanx silverbird02...I think i look into them....I like the xl because its bigger and faster...

If that's your limit on price, and racing may be in your mind, then I'd go revo or LST, leaning heavy towards LST.

I have an aftershock (pretty much an LST1 sans trans) that is heavily modified for bashing and it's one of the best handling rigs I've ever had short of a 1/8 buggy. The driveline is as solid as a tank, so you can upgrade your engine until your hearts content. Throw on some truggy wheels/tires, back off a bit of preload on the springs, and your racing. ;)

I've had a lot of trucks and for bashing, the LST and Savage platforms are great. Ability to handle a lot of power and really durable if setup right.

Losi LST2 ($500). Currently discontinued but parts support is still plentiful.

Losi now offers the LST XXL ($660) to apparently compete with the HPI savage XL and Associated MGT8.0.

It's very similar to the LST2 but has a longer chassis, different engine, wheel hubs, radio, shocks, brakes and transmission gearing. Rest of the stuff is the same I believe.

For that price range the Savage is an awesome rig that I've never heard anyone say bad things about. Bear in mind that it's primarily a basher, not sure on how it handles as a race rig.

Another thing to consider is if there is an active MT racing scene in your area. I know that here in the northwest the MT class is mostly dead. If that is the case for you as well you could look into a Truggy. Bash quality race rig (buggy with bigger wheels/arms) and quite tough. There are numerous truggies in that price range though I'm partial to the Associated RC8T myself since I have one (and the RC8 buggy) and have been very happy with them.

I am partial to The Revo myself. I've had one for several years and have had very few problems. As far as truggies go, I would recommend the OFNA Jammin X2-CRT. It's sturdy and runs great.

i am an associated fan. love the GT and GT2 in my area their parts take u;p an entire wall in she shop so they are readily avaliable. my GT nothing broke on it for 2 years. (excpt with that pole at top speed) verry reliable truck nice kick the gt2 runs for around 500 i believe also the MGT8.0 looks pretty good

My choice came down to a tie...Please help me out....Which is better....the Savage xl of the Losi LST XXL....I like the Losi because it comes with the spektrum radio...But the savage has an awsome 3 speed tranny...Is it worth it to get the savage and then buy a spektrum radio...or be happy with a 2 speed tranny from the lst xxl...THANX

Well, to be honest, the 3-speed is nice, but HPI diffs just don't hold up nearly as good as the ones in my aftershock. Even with all the parts upgraded to XL spec's and using alloy diff housings, they don't hold up like the stockers in my AS do.

Adding a lower 3rd gear to a savage just puts that much more stress on an already "weak" area. I have a 3-speed and it's cool to hear it shift, but honestly, getting it to shift where I want it is a pain since you have to take it apart to adjust the 1st-2nd shift (which I need to do in mine). I've upgraded my diffs in my savage completely and they are holding up ok now, but I'm fighting center axle cup issues now.

I've never had that issue on my AS ever. I've run many gallons through that thing without a diff issue. I did upgrade the diffs to HD spec over a year ago, but the ring/pinion/spider gears are all original and are over 2 years old with 14+ gallons of hard running on them.

The weak spot I can see on the LST XXL will be the chassis rails between the front and center skid. That's where it is longer than the LST2/AS trucks. I had busted mine at that spot 4 times prior to making an alloy skid to tie the front/center together. Haven't had a single issue since though.

As for the two speed in the LST XXL, you will find that you may want to gear it down 1T on the CB as it's geared pretty tall. The XXL has different trans gears in it that make it +1 to +2 over stock LST2's and it also runs a larger CB by 1T. I've heard vids of it and it really seems geared a hair too tall for the weight/tires and engine in that thing. Minor change to swap out the CB though.

I think ima get the LST XXL for now...but maybe someday down the road ill pick up a savvy xl....thanx

The only two things I'd change on the LST XXL right away are the brakes and engine brace.

Change the stock steel pads out for these: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB3606

And replace the stock cast brace with this: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYN7214B
Make sure to use plenty of locktight.

Those steel on steel brakes are very grabby and tend to start binding after a short while. The brace cracks very quickly after a few big air jumps.

I'd also suggest getting the HD center skid to help protect your spurs and pipe from impact: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB2261
But you can do that down the road as you see fit. I've caught my pipe on rocks at a decent clip and mangled the stinger and header before. I've also landed on something that hit my spurs and bent the input shaft to the trans, which then made the spurs crap out due to bad alignment.

All things you can get in the future though. Many RTR rigs needs a few touch ups out of the box to make it better. The savage is no different. ;)

get the losi lst xxl!
there is some reviews on it to.I will give you the link =p

hope you find this useful=p:D

Thanx for the vids...The 1st one is the one i already saw though...

The past couple weeks I have put the beating to my t-maxx and I have only broke a spur gear (knock on wood). I heard a lot of good about the savage tho.
