in the long run, is it cheaper to run onroad or offroad? my guess is going to be the onroad because you aren't constantly tearing parts up by rolling. I'm just trying to get a nitro and dont have a huge budget

well..i'd have to search for offroad but there are lots of parking lots around

I believe the "cheaper" way may be parkinglots, but you will eventually want to go and offroad later. For some reason I found a parking lot the best way to find the physical limits of my beater truck, learn how to get it to do what I want, while still having a somewhat flat surface (less distractional forces).

*distractional forces will probably earn me a rank with language trash club?

Go offroad, it's just more fun. If you want to go onroad just through on some onroad tires and you've got the best of both world's.

I would say if you are tight on money than to just make the RC you have better, but I was wondering if you were getting a nitro to bash or to race?

bash..with a tight budget..i just want some nitro dont really car onroad or offroad

The only downside to bashing a monster truck on-road is that if they have pin-type tires, they tend wear out quickly. Other than that, I agree that learning how to drive your truck in a parking lot is a good idea.

Are you wanting a Truck, a buggy, or a car? I mean there is such a variety when going nitro, that would prob help make my descision on to get on road or off road. I would say if you want a truck definetly go off-road and if you want a car then I would stay on-road, and for the buggy I would say the bigger scale you got then I would go offroad. It's all up to you though. I would say bashing on the concrete if you aren't jumping might be a little safer, but then again you might lose control and hit a concrete curb or something.
I would suggest to go to a smaller scale bc then the mill is a little smaller and might save you a few bucks, but i have learned if you don't have the money save up a little bit more and then get what you want because it would be well worth it.
Also have you looked into buying a used vehicle from someone on this site. If you don't mind it coming almost rtr than that's what i would do to save a little cash.

i have a traxxas jato 2.5. it works great for both on and off road. i am not as fast as the road racer cars or climb as good as the monster trucks. but it will do both good enough to keep me happy on a afternoon. plus the price was right new and repairs cost are low ($5-15).

To be honest with you... I don't know if either way is "Cheaper" than the other. They both can be very expensive. As far as breaking your stuff up less by staying on road... I could see that, being as you are not taking to the air as in offroad, but the asphault still takes it toll, as well as slamming into curbs.

Personally I would make the choice based on what you will have the most access to... parking lots, or offroad tracks, and or wide open spaces. I would start there before I would look into what is cheapest. IMO of course.
Good luck.

its not if u save money in the long run , its the fun you get out of bashing ur 4x4 not allways going round a flat track.
i would say be a rebel and have fun and go out bashing

the only reason onroad could be safer, is because you are not jumping etc. its like driving and a flat sand lot with an offroad, you won't break as much. IMO off-road is much funner. On road gets boring after awhile. you can do so much more off-road. Why get somthing like that to play it safe with? whats the fun in that? Bash and bash hard, thats what makes it all worthwhile.

ok, here's what i truly think. i would really like something offroad. i have an 18t and i love it. its good for my backyard. i would really like nitro. a good deal just came around on a schumacher fusion and i could probobly get it for about 200 almost new. i can't really find anything for offroad and I'm on a tight budget. i would really like offroad. i've been wanting a savage for months now. i also dont have as much space for offroad as much as onroad. there are so many parking lots around and not so many offroad type places

how are rc10gt's? i see them go for pretty low prices

also how about the monster gt?

i was just looking at the xtm xt2 and its seems like a good offroad for the price

Have you looked at the HPI MT2 or 18ss? It might be kind of a best of both worlds for you. Its not an aggersive off roader but it won't have a high CG when running in a parking lot either, plus they are relatively cheap.

IMO buggies are pretty good for dual purpose. You can run them on the road and they wont flip because of the low cg, but you can run them off road and out jump a MT. but it's all in what you want.

Ericke had a Monster GT for Sale @ a great price.
Very nice truck, clean & lots of extras.
Unfortunately (?) I went for another slightly used revo.
