I'm looking at buying a new MEGATECH .16 MOTOR for my RC10GT. Does anyne know if the brand is any good and if its reliable and how is the performance??? Please reply ASAP.

Leave it. They aren't that great. I remember investigating them when I had a t-maxx. Ran hot and had short lives with mediocre power output.

What are you spending on it? The OS 18 CV-R is a good little engine for around $110.

Do you need a rear exhaust or side exhaust? Rotary carb/slide carb?

Not sure I agree with you on that Olds. I had one in my Maxx a long time ago and I got over 4 gals. out of it before I snapped the conrod. It wasn't a powerhouse but had enough power to have fun with bashing. Granted, its a cheaper mill and the OS would be a better choice. But, at the time I got mine, they were selling new for like $65 shipped on Ebay and at the time that's all I could afford.

In my opinion, if you can get the OS, then that's what I would get. But, if the OS is out of reach, then the M16 wouldn't be a bad choice......

4 gallons was/is short to me...

I may be mistaken in the engine though... does it have a weird head? Or a "normal" cooling head? The one I had checked out about had a weird head, punk head I think they called it.

True, 4 gals. isn't a long life but, considering it was in a maxx, then in my ntc3 that was seriously over-geared for that engine and thus resulting in the snapped con-rod. (sorry i didnt mention that earlier)

The M16 I had was before "pineapple head" starting helping with the advertising for Mega-Tech. Chris Chianelli I think his name is? Mine had the somewhat square looking purple head on it, at least I think it was somewhat square. Been so long ago, I really can't remember.

Yeah... good point. I ended up going with an OS 15cv-r. I ran about 5 gallons through it in my 2.5 maxx. Not enough power. I beat it hard and ran it hot. Average temp of 280F. Then I tried my hand at "porting"... didn't end well.

Aside from that, I've had many OS engines last many gallons. The cv-r series was just a solid built engine.

Oh yea, OS is a hard engine to beat for the money. The CV-R series engines are a good mill. Buddy has the .12 in his old school rs4 that he's been racing now for about 3 years. Probably 5 gals. on that one.........still feels like new almost.

Back to topic....igortigor, are you getting this engine new or used??

I had two Megatech MT16's in my tmaxx. The only reason I bought a second was that I needed a piston and sleeve, and it was only about $20 difference, so I got the whole motor and broke it down for parts.

It's definately better than the pro 15, but doesn't hold a candle to the 2.5R.

Pull start for Megatech .16

So I got the engine and have most of the parts. But I'm missing a pull start and no LHS have them and ebay doesn't have it either. Can anyone help? Ill pay for shipping. Thank you

Or, you can fit an EZ start setup to the back; you'll need some air brush jar lid gaskets to make a 'shim' of sorts (two or three, if memory serves right). Did that with my MT16, and it worked fairly decent.
