Hey guys I'm new to this site. Great to meet you all. I have a problem. This is it. I started my car and it would not go forward or backwards. The servers work. They go right to left. The minute I turned off my remote control the car took off. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

What rig is it? What radio are you using too?

Dangit MetalHead matt, thats twice tonight!

I'm new to this. so I'm not sure how to answer this. I just got it as a gift from my wife. Its gas powered and goes about 73 mph...and the remote control is a Skyion DSX 2channel AM proportional radio.
Does this help at all?

You have do make sure the radio gear is working properly before you even attemp to start it. With the radio and the car on, engine OFF, take the air filter off and make sure the carb opens and closes all the way. Squeeze the trigger to open it. With your finger off of the trigger, there should be a 2mm gap. Brakes applied with the trigger pushed. If your new to rc's, you have a lot of reading up to do. If you cream somebody, or yourself with that car clipping along at 50+ mph, it will be a destroyed ankle.

... and install a fail safe!

I was going to leave the fail safe until I broke the car in, but I bought one and put it on this morning.

During break in when I ran the car further away.... heading straight for a curb (not that one that ended up killing it!) the brakes slammed on and the car stopped and wouldn't go....

I had not extended the antenna, car went out of range and if I had of left that fail safe out it would have simply hammered along on 1/2 throttle into the curb.

It's never a good idea to shut off the transmitter when the engine is running as the servos will more than likely freak out on you, as you noted with the run away. The servos don't go to a "default" setting unless you have a fail safe or possibly a throttle return spring.

The box should say what kind of vehicle it is. Giving us a brand and model type will help us give you more accurate information.

Well since you mentioned the radio is a Skyion I'm willing to bet it's a CEN, and with the claimed 73mph leads me to think it's the 1/10 onroad CT5........?

CEN, the 1/10 onroad CT5......yes this is what it is.
Why wouldnt it run with the radio on?

You'll have to check all linkages and radio settings and make sure that it turns left and right when you want in to, and that the throttle is opened when you squeeze the trigger. It may have been applying brakes when you wanted it to go forward.

And as olds said, you should get a failsafe installed. The receiver in the car should be turned on after the radio and turned off before the radio.

NEVER turn off the transmitter without turning off the car and receiver first. The instant you turn off the radio, the Rx is subject to whatever random signal hits it, and usually that's wide open throttle.

BEFORE starting the engine, make sure the servos are all responding the way they are supposed to. Keep the front end off the ground for testing the steering.

NEVER start the engine without turning on the radio first, then the receiver.

And read, read, read. Then read some more. That's one helluva fast car for a newcomer. Safety first, your wife's investment a close second.:) Take your time and be sure to break it in properly.
