Here we go!

Ok, I’ve been nit picking around on my 2.5 here and there. I finally decided I am going to run the Mach 2 over a 3.3 with OS carb.

Eitherway, both setups produce great power. So, my concerns are this. And, I maybe way off base here. But, I’ve read on a lot of old threads, on probably every rc forum on the internet, that many people advise you’ll need to upgrade the 2.5 driveline?

Am I missing something? Is there a part on the 2.5 driveline different then a 3.3 setup?

I’m set to totally redo this thing. I decided to put change to this thing. I tried to make this a stock one. I’m sure they are loads of fun. But, I couldn’t. I even reinstalled the 2.5 I was so momentarily confused on the issue. Yikes!!!!😬

Anyways, it’s getting the 3.3 tranny and gearing out to 17mm hex that’s going to run some stock revo’s. All new. I think there’s a drive cup difference but can’t remember.

Anyways, I have already upgraded some of the trucks parts with 3.3’s because it came broken and substantially damaged.

So, all that for this. Why were so many people on Internet forums saying if you upgraded your 2.5 setup to the 3.3 motor, you’d have to upgrade your drive lines?

Edumucate me fellas.

We need to know what rig you're referring to.

Also, IDK if English is a second language for you, but there are a couple of paragraphs there that don't make much sense to me. A lot of it seems to make sense in terms of the individual sentences, but overall the composition is very muddled, which makes it hard to understand. Consider clarifying your post and it may help other people respond.

For example:
"I decided to put change to this thing."
"I even reinstalled the 2.5 I was so momentarily confused on the issue. Yikes!!!!" (This sentence makes sense by itself but not in context of the paragraph)
"it’s getting the 3.3 tranny and gearing out to 17mm hex"

If you're referring to the Traxxas 2.5 and 3.3 engines, I was under the impression that the 3.3 wasn't much more powerful than the 2.5 but @Chubaka is much better versed in those Traxxas engines than I am so maybe he can shed some light.

I guess doing three things while typing a thread has led to the confusion. Walking away unfinished. Coming back and picking up. Multiple times. Let me clarify.

2.5 tmaxx. If you search the internet, forums are full of people advising if you install a 3.3 motor in a 2.5 tmaxx, to upgrade the drive lines and such. Why?

However, I also asked if I was missing something. Incase I was. And, I did so because I’m fixing on tearing into the 2.5 rebuild. Instead of getting started and having to stop while awaiting parts, if there is something I need to be prepared to do, please tell me. I’ll get it before I start.

To clarify, my question is why are forums full of this advice since parts between the 2.5 and 3.3 tmaxx are interchangeable? And, in the case I haven’t stumbled upon a part on the 2.5 that won’t interchange with a 3.3 part, I’d like to know what they are before I get started.

Thanks ahead of time to any and all responses.

Been awhile since I have mucked with my TMaxx's, but you'll have no issues running the Dynamite .19 in the 2.5 truck without changing anything. The 3.3 should be fine as well honestly. It's not a huge power difference really, and I'm not even sure there's much difference in the shafts (if at all) in terms of durability. As I recall they are just longer.

Thanks man.

The Tmaxx 2.5 or Tmaxx "classic" uses different diffs and driveshafts. The Tmaxx 3.3 uses a Revo spec driveline. The classic uses a diff that is unsealed with weaker ring & pinion. The driveshafts are also stronger and a larger diameter on the 3.3 Tmaxx.
That’s the info I was looking for as well. Thank you.
