RC Driving Style
Ok, I'm probably going to order a hyper 7 tommorow, and I need to know what oils to use. Like what wt. shock oils are typical for this buggy (I don't yet know what type of track surface it is, so I just want a good all-around wt.). And, could I use this:http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHFT6&P=7

or this: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFTY1&P=7

I'd like to save some money so that's why I ask.

Since, I don't know what the track surface is like, I'll go ahead and tell you my driving style so you could maybe help me a little better. I like to be able go through corners as fast as possible w/o having to slow down or slide the car, and I like to be able to break traction if needed, or slide the rear end around if needed, but i'm guessing that most of that set-up would be in the brake bias...

Sorry I don't really know much about the track, or my driving style, but ask any questions needed to better answer my question, and thanks in advance!

HEY there....
First off I run 35 front shocks& 40 rear.

The diffs I run 5,7,1or2 ...

Thats front to rear

I like to run 5,7,3. If you want the rear to swing out more put a higher weight in the rear, but 3 is already pretty high for the rear but I like it. For shocks I usually run 40 all around but it might be better with 35 in the front like Zandor said. This is usually a pretty neutral set up, try it and go from there.

I run 50 in the front, 40 in the rear, 10/20/10. Before the truggy iran 40 in the front 35 in the rear, 7/10/1

Hey, thanks for all the help guys, I hope to order the buggy today....assuming my parents will let me use their credit card... :hammer: damn beein under 18 and 21 sux....lol.

In my Hyper 7 PCR I run 40 all around, but really move the preloads down(up?) on the rear.

I use 3/5/1 on the diffs.

On my TT S3, I use 40 front, 50 rear and 3/5/1. I have run 3/5/3 on that buggy and like it is posted above, it really makes the rear end come around more on corners, especially when on power.

Well, I might not be ordering it because the lhs doesn't carry ofna parts and I could've sworn they did, and it takes like almost 2 weeks to order something. So, I'm not sure I wanna have to go through waiting forever for parts...good thing I called before I ordered it tho...

So I'm not quite sure what to do...I could decide to go ahead and buy the H7, and have to wait forever for parts, upgrade the savage into a good racer, or wait till Losi releases their 1/8 buggy since they carry losi parts, lol.

Don't count on Losi releasing a buggy. Does your lhs carry other parts? Mugen Kyosho, xray, ttr? You could get a good buggy for a descent price on ebay.

Well, fortunately, I found another hobby shop just a little further that seems to deal in almost all rc cars (As opposed to hobbytown usa carrying crap for every hobby), and they carry OFNA and Mugen. So it appears I'm back on track....unless I change my mind and want to get a mbx-5...

I've heard rumors of them testing one, but that's about it.

And, well, doesn't it make sense for Losi to come out w/ one? But it prolly won't be out till 2006...

track condition is big factor in shock oil wt selection
i run 55wt up front and 45 wt in rear with Kyosho blue springs all around with ride height set to make CVA's level
i am going up to 70wt up front and 60wt in rear... in general most tracks are pretty smooth around here with large jumps i also have another set of shocks with lighter weight oil for the rougher tracks
i run 3-5-1 in my diffs front to rear
i will probably go 5-7-2 on the next clean and rebuild to swing the rear end abit

Ya, I think I'm going to go w/ 5-7-2 if I get a chance to go to the lhs this week.

Ok, well I got back from the lhses. All they had was 5k and 1k so I picked both of those up. Now, my question is, should I go w/ a 5-5-1 set-up, or go w/ a 5-grease-1 set-up? Or just an all grease set-up? I picked up some 35wt. shock oil as well, but I'm going to use the stock oil and see how it is on the track first, then decide if I want to switch (I need 35 for my savage anyway).

lol, at the first hobby shop I went to, They had the 1k and I thought the 5k, so I pay for both of those amoung other things, and walk out. Then, 20' down the sidewalk, I noticed I picked up 50k instead. So I go back to return it, and the guy says he can either exchange it for something else, or give me store-credit, and I didn't want to do the store credit bit. So I take about 30 mins looking around the store to see if there's anything else I needed instead. Well, they didn't have 5k, so I go looking through the store, up and down trying to figure out what to spend my $7 on. After 30 mins, I decide on a reciever cover and some antenna tubes. Then, as soon as I walk out, I think, "man, I should've gotten some more glow plugs instead..." But, I decide not to go and exhange them for those, and to just continue on my way to the hobbytown usa.

I cannot believe the LHS would not give you your money back after the sale had JUST taken place and they sold you the wrong product. What a crappy way to do business.

Ya, I wasn't too impressed w/ the place, had a lot of stuff out of stock. I intend to go there only for my ofna parts or if they have something that I need, the hobbytown doesn't have.

after reading some stuff on the Ofna forum I might try a new diff set up hehehe
this is what was done now though
Check out the new set up!!
New top plate, chassis braces, and of course engine and pipe.
SH .21 with Sportwerks 1pc 053 pipe in black and X1 flyweel and 3 shoe blue aluminum clutch. Just got through running the 3rd tank through it. Got a few more after work tomorrow then...slowly starting getting on it. Break-in tires are already on and ready to get to work.
I changed out the front shocks to X1/9.5 version shocks and will do so on the back tomorrow also. Need to go back in and change the shock weight and spring combo.
