Hyper 7 Pro Kit Engine

I'm new to RCing (had a TMaxx for a while a few years ago). I'm looking for suggestions for an engine for a Hyper 7 Pro Kit buggy. I am looking for something in the $150 - $200 range that is easy to tune and semi-fast. I'm basically looking for something that isn't top of the line but will allow me to compete in a few novice class races while I learn the car, the sport, how to drive better, and how to take care of/tune an engine.

I will probably jump up to a P5 or WS7 II or something similar sometime in the future but would rather "start" on a less expensive but competitive engine.

i would have to say the hyper 7 8 port it a screamer...it will get the job done...and only costs 118$ you can't go wrong thats my 2 cents

Yes the hyper7 8 port is a great engine and it gets up and goes. I had one in my PBS before I moved up to the WS7 11.

I'm also running a Hyper 8 port, but using an OS 20E carb... The stock carb can be problematic.... After talking to a friend at the LHS, he advised me to try an XTM 24.7 engine in my Hyper 7 Pro. He said that I would be very suprised by how much more power it has over the Hyper 8 port, and for a low price tag.... Just a sharing a recommendation...

yep the XTM 24.7 is a really nice mill but i was told that it may be overkill for a buggy, no need of that much torque and that its more intended for truck use.. imo get the Hyper 7 8 port race eng. 38,000 rpm @ 2.7 hp, great buggy mill, lots of low end and it screams @ mid and top end + has a couple of features that make it a lil different then the regular hyper 7 8 port

The NitroKeebler was in just about the some position you are in. He took 200 bucks and bought 2 OS RG's.

Just this last weekend at our 2hr race those little RG's were hauln. Never flamed out and was getting almost 7-8 min on a tank of fuel. Good reliable motors IMO.

24-7 is a great mill. I have seen Picco 26 on buggies and they scream! Why not right? you can try different gearing to restrict power even pipes or carb restrictors if you think that it has too much power. A fellow members started a thread on his siro27 that it just may have too much power.

Both mill stated are under 200 bux.

if your not planning on raciing and your just gonna bash, get one of the bigger mills, like jon2 said its ez to restrict some of the power but if u are gonna race, from what i understand neither the picco or 24.7 is race legal, correct me if I'm wrong fellas or do they fall into a different race class?

Yep that is why I suggested the OS RG. All of those big .27 motors are not leagal, but if he is just racing on a local club level some people dont mind. But these are all opinions so its all good. I still say go with the OS RG, 100 bones and save up so when you are ready you can get that big bad azz RB or Rossi and then start laying the smack down.
