ls there a way to time yourself when drivng alone.?? l run on pavement, normally in parking lots. Ovals around lamp posts and also road course type patterns. l want to time my laps. ls there a simple way to do that.?? Or would l have to get a timing system with a transponder.??

Without a transponder youd have to have another person with a stop watch. I'm not aware of anyway you could do it yourself.

As stated transponder is most accurate way. Maybe a gps app or a camera recording the stop watch and the car going by so you can watch it later and focus on the car..

I was surprised to discover that I could not find any simple lap timers on the market. A lap timer with a portable on-track pickup loop for 1 or 2 vehicles would be very easy to build.

Manual stop watch (MSW) worked for me when I ran my back yard grass track oval. Hung it around my neck on a lanyard.

True, time was lost on the start and stop procedure for the watch, but it was a consistent loss. A loss I accepted as part of having a simple and inexpensive timing system. Reaction time loss to the start/stop was remarkably consistent, so felt I was fairly timing the trucks. The MSW method was also helpful in determining if chassis adjustments helped or hindered lap times.

The two radios I was using to run my six trucks also had Up Timers. Tried those but didn't adapt to them well. That's also an option, but it only recorded to the full second. Using the MSW, trucks could time to the 0.25sec lap. Often a deciding factor in race placing.

Hope this helps. 'AC'

Phone apps .
some radios have timers on them you just need to set that option up ..

Thanks for the replies. But darn, no easy solution. Carry on...... Thanks guys.

Maybe set up a tripod phone mount, put your phone in there, start filming and then driving, once you finish driving stop the video, it doesn't have to be right on the dot, as you can watch the video, note the time when you started driving (for example, you'd go "oh, I started at 0:03), and note the time you finished (like "..and I finished at 0:31), then subtract the start time from the finish time, and boom, done! Easier done than said!

If you have voice activation on your phone, you can tell it to start a stopwatch possibly
Good idea, but I'm leaning toward my method stated above, in my experience voice commands are a hit or miss! If I were to do it, there's a good chance you'd see me holding my radio yelling repeatedly at the phone, while the phone either does nothing or thinks I want to know the weather! lol

Best way is with telemetry in car. If you are going go through the trouble of setting a phone up on a tripod, which would work, might as well just use a stopwatch.

So like a unit in the car or something? I know that some GPS's have the ability to time stuff, for like drag races.

Just because SkyRC manufacturers items for Hitec doesn't mean they design them or have anything to do with the quality of their products. Not sure why Hitecs looks like a clone of the SkyRC one though. Usually Hitec designs all of their own stuff. 🤷‍♂️

Hitec is pretty good, I honestly don’t care I paid a lot for a rebranded SkyRC charger. It works absolutely perfect, and the quality is amazing.

edit: For twice the price, the Hitec version isn’t a good deal at all.
