Turn Marshalling

Guidelines for Effective Turn Marshalling

1) Watch only your section of the track. Do not watch the race.

2) Keep both hands free. Don't eat, drink, or smoke while marshalling.

3) Oncoming traffic has the right of way. Marshall the wrecked car only when you can do so without interfering with traffic.

4) Try to marshall the car that was leading, first.

5) If a car jumped the barrier, place it back in the lane it left.

6) If a car stops in your section, pick it up and place it down once. If it doesn't start, then pick it up and place it out of the way, and upside down. It is not your responsibility to turn the car off, or run across the track to take the car to the sidelines.

7) Do not place a marshalled vehicle on the track in front of oncoming traffic.

8) Marshalls DO NOT work on broken or disabled vehicles.

9) Do not throw cars.

10) Do not leap or jump into the air. It only increases your chances of landing on someone's car.

11) Do not touch a vehicle if it is still being accelerated by the driver. Drivers let go of the trigger if you want to be marshalled.

12) Marshall like you want to be marshalled.

13) Drivers do not yell or scream at the marshalls.

do you feel the rules is ENOUGH?
what is not right in the rule?

i ask this questions becoz i havent been marshalling before.... need to know more....

:) mop :)

Sunglasses or safety glasses should be on there. I've had mud thrown on my glasses when I've been marshalling the buggy races.

The only one I disagree with is 10, I rather land on someones car then take it @ 40+ in the shin. When a car is gonna hit me you can bet your ass I will jump!

As kwong said, wear some gloves. Mechanics gloves or even leather, working gloves. Something that gives you prtection against heat from the pipe or header. I also carry a paint brush with me. Not to clean it but to use the handle to hit against the flywheel if there's an emergency (run away) and the pipe is no longer attached to the header. It's easier than using the heel of your shoe to turn it off.

Also wear high top sneakers. I have been hit with a car, yeah it hurt but would've hurt more if it hit my ankle bone without the protection.

The only thing that I would add is to pick up a nitro vehicle by the front and rear. Not by the sides.
You can accidently cover the exhaust stinger causing the car to stall if you pick it up by the sides.

I think rule number 1 is really important,it seems to be the biggest problem I notice when it comes to marshalling.nothing is more frustrating than having your truck flame out during a race because a marshall was too busy looking at the other side of the track to notice that your stuck. :marshall:

I've been a victim of that several times and it cost me the race and laps.

Gloves should be a must to handle the car.

And hell yeah I'm jumping out the way!

What's funny to me guys is how can you marshall the lead car first when two cars crash in your section? How would you know who was ahead if you were not watching the race? LMAO

I follow one simple rule when turn marshalling, act like the car that flipped over is your car! Turn marshall like you would want to be marshalled. It's funny how do unto others goes across the board.

i like HUMBOLDTBLAZER attitude.... marshall the car as if it is YOUR car.... hmmmmmm.... so in return when your car needs marshalling... the marshall will do it properly for you!!

in the issue of multiple car crash.... i think the marshall willl have to pick the MOST FRONT car first..... if all the car somewhat piled on top of each other... pick up the TOP MOST car... or if let say the cars laying side by side (none of them in front of one another)... then marshall the NEAREST car first.... fair?

So many times I have had, and have seen the RCs haphazardly tossed onto the track. In some cases even backward, sideways, and even upside down. I have also seen way to many RCs placed or tossed into the center of the track. Take enough time to place the RC properly in the safest lane and pointing in the proper direction. Another thing that gets me is Marshall favoritism. A Marshall can help win or loose a race predicated on their actions. Be fair to all.

you forgot to mention

1-Don't grab the car by the pipe (right Diver)
2- While marshalling don't forget that you put a reamer in your back pocket & then you sat down (right Diver)
I just wanted to remind you for next season cause it is very hard to concentrate while driving & thinking of what recently happened :8-0:

HOW about if the CAR is immobilised... what should we do? what is the usual practice at your area? leave the car at a safe zone (marshall zone) or marshall run to give the car to the pit crew?

:) mop :)

710baby...

what had happened with the reamer behind your pocket? tell us....

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN, now I gotta relive the story I thought would never get out. Ok, Here goes ....

This was all at prospeed this season. Happened to be the first time my brother and I were ever in the B-main together.

When they were counting down the time to get the cars on the track (1 minute and counting) I put my car down and realized the hole for my transponder was cracked and the transponder was flopping around. I had to make a new one. With less than a minute to go, I run back to the pit area, grab the reamer, make the hole and attach the transponder. It was too close to race time so I stuck the reamer in my back pocket, pointing up so I don't poke my ass.

Race goes by, 710 gets first, my brother gets second and I take third. RCNT swept the B-main and I'm ecstatic! A-main comes up, we have to marshall, those are the rules. I'm not wearing gloves and when it comes time for me to pick up a car I grab it from the side. Burned my hand and almost threw the car back on the pavement. Ok, no prob, won't do that again.

A-main is finished and we start helping the owner tear down the track and pack up. When all this is done, we start getting our stuff together for the trip home. MIND YOU, I have done all this with the reamer in my back pocket! Nothing happened in the 1 hour since I put it there.

I am tired so I sit down. I feel a little pinch, wiggle around in my seat and then ... WHAM! the reamer stabbed me in the ass and got stuck there! I jump up and start screaming! 710baby is right there in the next pit area and is starring at melike, WTF Diver, why you screamin?!? Everyone is looking at me by now, including my brother. I stick my hand in my back pocket and pull out a reamer. Of course, everyone laughed but I'm the one who had his boxers stuck to his ass with dry blood.

Moral of the story, don't marshall with a reamer in your back pocket. Better yet, NEVER stick a reamer in your back pocket!

Geeez, that's an embarrasing story. Thanks 710!

Of course it happened when I wasn't there! I would've pissed myself if I was. lol

Team, everyone was pissing their pants! Noone even asked if I was ok but it's ok. At the very least, I can laugh about it. Now, to sideline a little bit ... are we going to make this "Team RCNT" come alive? Now that there's more people getting into competative racing, there's a few months for us to get things moving, with Woodie's approval of course.

At my count,710baby, you, remy, sl0eg1n, and me is a good start. At least we're within 1 hrs driving distance of each other and are all driving distance of sanctioned tracks. Let's get this baby rolling. Webspace for a small site shouldn't be a problem. Also, between 710's affiliation with Hobbies105 and our (sl0eg1n and myself) affiliation with NYC Hobbies, parts shouldn't be a problem either.

I have asked Woodie about it and he doesn't have a problem. So yes I want to get it started. I will be racing this winter at Jackson in the micro 1/18th. So I will have this sites banner flying there.

Do u know where or who makes banners to make one for "Team RCNT"?

Any suggestions to get this moving LMK.

I know of a place that does it since I had to have one made for previously. I myself will be racing 1/12 this winter over at South Shore Hobbies.
