That depends on where the spring breaks and how it connects. If you have to cut the spring and then re-bend any portion of it, make certain to heat the metal prior to bending it. This will prevent the metal from snapping at the bend.

I figured that out after snapping a couple little pieces off mine once. Heat it up red, bend it to the shape you want it, heat it up red again, drop it in cold water. This tempers it back up. It worked for me anyhow.
