How often to change plug

Been awhile since I've owned a nitro, but I would only change the glow plug when it died. Why because I'm cheap. A glow plug can last a long time, if you have a good tune.

Never had a plug all out fail on me. I usually change my plug when the coil spiraling does not look uniform any longer. I start to get scared it may snap and drop onto the piston head causing major problems. I never had a plug stop glowing before I stopped using it.

I stop using it when the engine gets fussy. The first thing I do is pull the plug, see if it's coil is goofed up, adjust tune accordingly and put in a new plug. I only swap out 1 or 2 a year, that's for 4 engines. I drive/drove mostly just 2 trucks all last year and I think I changed a plug out once early on. I burned about 3 gallons of nitro last year.

Olds97, you can see how distorted the coil looks on your break in plug vs a new plug. When my.plugs start to have uneven gaps in the coil and don't look quite right any longer is when I will pull them. That being said I have a plug in my rustler going on 3 gallons this year and still looks primo. They seem to last if your not drowning them or burning them up, get in the tuning window and they last quite awhile. Anyone ever have a plug break and fall into sleeve?

I've had a plug in my Rustler for 5yrs until it went bad, I would never change one because of a time measure but only when it doesn't fire any longer.

Never seen one fall in. Most manufacturers of quality plugs use a physical crimp in each side of the plug so when they pop, the pieces are still held in. Cheapos don't always use a crimo, so if you go that route, double check for the crimps. Personally, I buy os plugs. Its not worth the $2 savings for a cheap one.!
