well just wondering how tight i should put it to get the best response with a low chance of stripping the spur gear ifi get stuck or suttin i have it to the point when when it starts turning is that too much or do i want it that tight??

Hmmm, I have mine set at a 1/4 turn out from tight. Been on the original spur gear ever since I got my savage last year. Just make sure the mesh is good. That's the key right there. I think my brother has his 1/2 out from tight.

your not suppose to have it tight. You snug the nut down till the spring is fully compressed then you back it off approx 1/4 turn

Alein has the right idea 1/4 turn out from snug is a great place to start.

On a 4WD the best way is to start at .25 turns out from snug. I like to put it against a wall and and give it a full throttle blip. Adjust the slipper so it will slip about 25-50% of a turn without trying to climb the wall. If I am going to be jumping I will loosen it up another .25 turn.

On a 2wd I will keep loosening it until I can give it WOT from a stand still and not get any torque steer. A pull to the right while accelerating. If I'm running on a slippery surface I will loosen it up a bit more.

These are only guidelines and you will need to find what works best for you.
