I've read the same about cold/dense air requiring you to richen it. Anytime I richened it though, it gets so blubbery that it won't run. Which is why I lean it.
I also used something to keep the head warm last winter. I wrapped it with a piece of cut inner-tube and a hose clamp to keep the heat from dissipating. With the wrap and fiddling with the tune, I could keep the temps at the GP around 210 pretty easily for extended periods of time.
I'm hoping the "stub" head will help keep temps up this winter... time will tell.
