Hey guys, I've recently been looking for a new 1/8 platform, preferably truggy, and I've found that hobao has a very cost effective 1/8 almost ready to run truggy. I want to know what experiences you guys have had with hobao, and if it would hold up to everyday bashing, not sending it 30 feet into the air. I already have a max 8 2500kv system, and a hv high speed spektrum servo. How is parts support and avaliablity? CHristmas is coming up, and Tekno is WAY out of the price range my parents would be willing to spend on me for my first true 1/8 car. Thanks!

I personally don't have any experience with them, but I've seen them before. I was looking into them for a 1/10 buggy, but went with Associated instead. A handful of people at my local track run them. Mostly TLR there though. From what I've seen they look legit enough to be worth something, but I'm not sure many hobby shops carry their parts.

I'm just worried I'll have the car for a year then they'll discontinue it for a new version. It's the only reason why I haven't made the switch to tekno or similar.

Well a lot of companies carry over parts from the previous generation into the next. Also somewhere somehow, there will be parts for it. I see your concern though. My RB10 has a lot of parts I can carry over from the B5 onto it, and from the DR10. Lots of companies also mix and match parts from other cars because it's cheaper.

At the end of the day a V6 Kraton/Notorious will get you farther. Possibly a roller off of eBay? An Arrma is a truck that can grow with you over time.

I have a Tekno MT48 2.0. It's a nice truck but I think a Notorious is a funner truck to drive.
I've always loved the notorious. I just don't have the funds for it. And I don't like how the arrma kraton drives. My buddy had one, and it was a pain to handle. But ill see what I can do about the noto. But, I already have a hobbywing 4s system, and I feel a new slider would be good. Its the max 8 2500kv 4268 combo.

2500kv 4268 combo.
How about a 1/8 EBuggy? Your combo would be the best for a buggy. A truggy prob won't handle it that well, but in theory it can work.

4268 - more of a buggy motor

4274 - more of a truggy motor (truggy is more heavy and has larger tires. Larger can = longer rotor = more mechanical torque)

2500kv, not that common to see that high of kv atleast in my experience with 1/8 racing, so for bashing, especially long sessions I would only run 4s and gear down on the pinion. If running it in a truggy gear it down motor and possibly add a fan maybe.

I mean If you want buggy can't go wrong with building up a Typhon 6s. If you build one up one the whole group will all have Typhons lol. Should be able to find Typhon rollers out there on the bay. Jenny's rc if you need any replacement parts. They have it best.

I've been looking at the tlr typhon roller, but its listed as discontinued on horizons website.

I plan to only run 4s

Well... It is horizon so what do you expect. Discontinue anything and everything out of no where for no reason.
But, typhons are heavily supported out there. I'm hoping a new V6 is coming out soon.

Since you asked about a truggy, I’ll give my input.. If you’re after a vehicle that is gonna DRIVE like a race truggy, then go with the Hobao. They DO make very nice stuff, some things about them can be kind of proprietary though-but if you’re buying Hobao parts, it won’t be an issue.. They drive KILLER, not like an elephant on ice skates-like most RTR’s.. 2600kV is a LOT in truggy, but absolutely can be done.. Grab a QUALITY fan, and fan mount for the motor. Stay away from the goofy AF heatsink/fanmount combo’s. The Reds 40mm fan mount comes with (2), and is about the best I’ve found personally.

If you want a monster truck, or something that is gonna DRIVE like a monster truck, then go Arrma. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That combo you have is perfect for an Ebuggy.
Typhon 6S V5 sliders can be found for $300 or less and handle almost race buggy and it's possible to mod them into competitive race buggies. Also Arrma parts are cheap and easy to find. Arrma ftw in this scenario. Unless you want to be super competitive on the track. I have a Typhon V5 and it's a great basher on good tires and a good track car with some track tires. Get a Typhon to match me and @DavidB1126 lol

TLR rollers are pretty good too, but they have some weaker pill mounting blocks for more tuning that isn't needed unless you're racing. For bashing and casual racing the V5 is perfect. Like I've said new sliders that have had parts removed can be found for $300 or less.

Just picked up some new tires for the 1:1 blazer yesterday for Christmas from my mom, so I'll have to talk to my dad about the hobao for Christmas. I think I'm leaning towards the hobao, as I think I am gonna start dialing down on the abuse I put my cars through. Thanks everyone! And, I've always wanted a truggy. In the future I may get the hobbywing 4274 or whatever motor it is to bring temps down if it is too much.
