Hey everyone!

I picked this guy up on FB Marketplace a year or two ago for peanuts.

Everything was there. The body as you can see had never been cut or painted. I just had it sitting in the box until I found inspiration!

I had these older gold rallys that I wasn't using.
Decided on a whim to paint them white. That's when it hit me!

Heritage Edition Build!

I dug out all the parts I ordered for it and began wrenching!

Out of what is in this bin, what color do you guys think I am painting it?

So the silver can was dead, like doa dead. I plugged it right into a Lipo and it did nothing.
Tossed in a used brushed motor I had along with a new servo I had kicking around for years.
The one that was in there had plastic gears and it sounded like it was chain drive.

It got the Futaba.

I also had these RC4wd Goodyear's hanging around for a long time. I ordered them for a different project but I didn't like the look. They're perfect for this rig; Almost the same size as the factory tires!

It'll be mainly a shelf queen, but down the road I'll probably give it to my little guy as his first 1/10 hobby grade.

I'd do the ps33 red, with the white trim of course!

OooOoo I didn't think red. I was drawn to mustard.

I have a late '60's square body around that could also use that paint though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don't have any black so it would be all white like the yellow version.

Nice! I've always wanted to do one of the Tamiya scale truck builds but never pulled the trigger. They look so good.

I agree! There are so many examples where people just build them out with a nice paint job and they look sick.

Being completely transparent however, if I didn't get this for a stick of bubble gum and a handshake I wouldn't be building it.
I also ordered everything (hop up parts) before the tariffs and prices climbed even higher.

The steering is definitely wonky on this thing though.

The drag link seems to not like the extreme angle at full droop; it binds. I mean, just look at the angle in the pictures.

I am thinking, I'll put some limiting straps on it and see if it helps. Or possibly raise the steering stand off. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They also have a rep of not being capable of much (seems rightfully so). I don't have high expectations but I thought I would give it a fighting chance.

Thread update, it's been a minute.

I have been steadily working away at this project. I couldn't tell you how many hours I have into finishing. So far I have the body painted, most of the decals I plan on using installed and I am working on the final touches.

Here's a look at this completed piece

I have never used this product before, but so far it seems to be working out. I'll check it out after drying over night.

Wow! That was incredibly easy to work with! Once I had a flow started on a separate piece of paper, I just colored in each grille hole one by one. It went quick.

The letters I painted with testers flat white and then gloss red.

More to come 😀

Nice Bronco, well done!
Thanks, appreciate it!

I'm excited for when it is completed.

Edit:

Testing the truck

I see why these Duratracs have a winter rating in real life; they were doing well!

I am having some issues with the light kit I installed. I cannot get two sets of brake lights or one set and a set of running lights to work.

I had a pair of tail lights from the Tamiya kit that didn't work with this light kit. Okay, no problem. It sucked because they were all glued in but I changed them out to some that came with the light kit. I painted them red and installed them in the taillight buckets.

Still only one set of tail lights working.

I will have to play with the programming to see if I can get this to work.

I also didn't like the fact the yellow turn signals didn't light up so I have since fixed that by adding some LEDs to the lenses 😁

Update

Saturday December 27th 2025

Gosh, I have been messing with lights and this lighting kit for what feels like forever. I give up.
I cannot get it to work properly. No matter how I connect the ESC/RX connections, no matter what I do with the taillights I could not get all four working together.
I went from having functional tail lights to nothing at all.

I tried using their "programming" method and just made things worse. Now the only thing that works is the front. I give up.

I have it ready to go for the final indoor Crawl day if the year tomorrow, I'll see how she drives.

Down the road I will swap it out to something else, I am so irritated with it right now I just do not care.

I know this light kit wasn't expensive, but it just like, what the heck man!?!

Well that was an experience and one that I can now say I tried.

I tossed a lot at the truck; I like to think I gave it "a fighting chance".

I know I said I would give it to my son, but I want him to enjoy RC driving, not have to battle a vehicle around a course or pile of rocks.

I just don't need another Sunday driver trail truck.

Here's a video of the day, spoiler alert, big crash at the end :(

Once I touch up the nicks and sort out the lights I'm going to list it for sale.
