TLDR/Cliff notes version - I want a 1/10 brushless basher and would like to stay around $350 all in - more details below

*******

So, I really want to get a basher. 1/10 scale. I don't see being able to afford a Traxxas, and am really looking at some Redcats

I really like both the Redcat Volcano EPX PRO and the Blackout XTE

I am trying to stay on a reasonable budget as I have already gone a little crazy on my 1/24 scale crawlers, and then there's my other hobbies. So in order to not get into hot water with Mrs. Tallbump, I am tiring to be.....discerning.

I am still new to RC in general, as I got my first crawler last August and a second for Christmas. Right now most of my knowledge is around the SCX24's. I do have a freind that has several bashers, all Traxxas, so I have seen some in action. I know eventually I would want to go brushless.

The Volcano is already brushless but it's about $70 more than the Blackout and it still needs a battery and charger. And, I don't know what good batteries and chargers run for these.

The Blackout comes with the battery and charger, but isn't brushless. I don't know what it would costs to maker the upgrade

Or, am I barking up the wrong tree altogether? Is there a different brand, or different rig I should be looking at?

look at the exploded parts list and try to decide which is gonna be eqsier to work on, bashers break so often ( for me anyhow lol wonder why???)
i have a few bashers, and each time i drive em i break em, they go fast and land hard lol
that mt10 is awesome and i still want one

What level of "bashing" are we talking about?

The term "bashing", or rather the meaning, has gotten out of control IMO. Everyone seems to think RC "bashing" is the extreme side of playing with remote control toy cars. People often will say certain types of RCs can't be "bashed", or you have to "send" an RC vehicle so high/hard, or it has to reach a certain speed to be a great "basher".

"Bashing" is simply driving your RC vehicle around without rules and regulations. From vacant lots to mall parking lots; from the backyard to highway 181; from 1/24 to 1/4 scale RC platforms... it is all about you and your RC having fun ripping 'n' tearing around as fast, or slow, as you see fit. If a person wants to toss plastic, and metal toys 30' into the air... so be it. That's just one of many levels in the RC "bashing" world.

thats a great point! i drive my bashers ridiculous hard, i drive my crawlers ridiculous hard, i drive all ofem like a dumb lol
i dig my stampede more thn most of em,
to me a basher is something to drive fast and potentially jump stuff, i like just ripping back and forth with siomething that goes fast, i consider this to be bashing. i dont have many jumps or areas to launch stuff. but i think its HELLA fun to fly at top speed and to then try to steer, the drifting, trying to keep it under control while loosing control.
based on my personal experience with my version of bashing, id have to say the tekno sct is awesome for it, i can climb up my tree and do backflips, i can land a solid jump and drive it after lol.
i can't do that as much with my crawlers, as much mind you.. i still bash my crawlers cause i enjoy a good repair day lol

the stampede takes my abuse pretty solidly, the big rock was a blast, (think ima drive it tomorrow lol) the 2wd ruslter ?? not a fan, its ok, it just doesn't handle as well and i honeslty havent really worked on many traxxas trucks so am nervous about getting into it. the stampede was very easy to repair when it brok, i consistantly threw driveshafts untill i upgraded to cvd driveshafts.
whats your terrain? the big rock would soak up the bumps in say a pasture much better than the stampede will, its gonna hit a rut and try to flip over it. but in the snow the stampede ran thru stuff the rock got stuck on.
my suggestion is to get a few lol

Good questions. Just something I can drive fast, turn fast, jump, etc...I won't be racing. I have 2 crawlers so I won't be doing that.
I just want to take it outside and have fun. I'd like speeds of about 35MPH. I'd don't expect to be able to jump 30 feet, but I'd like more than like 2 feet.

For cheap basher id go hbx 2996a. Tanky for what it is I've had nothing break. Backyard driving no skatepark bashing. You can find them for $150 if you shop around. Alibaba, banggood. I've got a couple off of ebay for 150. If you want a American one I highly recommend you save a bit more and get the traxxas maxx v2. Its pretty much the poop. But you'll be around 600.
