I recently ordered 2 quads. I have no clue why other than the neighbor let me fly his blade qx350. It was a real sweet quadcopter. Anyway, I wanted something on the cheap as I am not sure if I will stick with flying. I ordered a syma x5sc 1. It got good reviews and there were a ton of youtube videos and for 75 clams I figured why not.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Remember that you get what you pay for. I started with Blade mQX (now the 180QX) and nano QX. Both are inexpensive compared with the bigger 350QX. I also have recently purchased a 200QX which is slightly larger than the 180QX but is brushless and a lot more powerful. All of these are under $250. The nano QX is not meant for much wind but can be flown outside in the calm.

The less expensive brands may not have the parts availability of the Blade quads. You also might have issues doing firmware updates and the initial programming of some flight controllers without outside help.

Thanks for the info @hamz9561 Are there models that are known for their durability? Rephrased is there a "savage" of the quad world?

The 180QX and the nano QX are tough. I've bounced the nano off the walls with no real damage. I bounced the mQX of mine off of the next apartment building over and again had no damage. Haven't really had any mishaps with the 200QX, yet...

I bought a whole host of micro helis and quads to give the air stuff a go. probably the easiest thing to start on was a Blade nano qx. stability mode makes it great for beginners and the blades are protected somewhat.

I got my 2 quads in yesterday. The Syma was a dud. It kept losing communication. But as @hamz9561 said, "you get what you pay for!" I shipped it back to amazon for a full refund. The other one was a Dromida Ominus. All three LHS I go to carry them, so I felt it was a safe bet for a first flyer. It flies really well. I have been through about 20 packs today. Only one minor hard landing. LOL. I am probably going to save for a Blade or Walkera for my next one. Thanks for the input yall!

Dromida Ominus my RC brethren.
