so i was heading home last thursday from work and had to make a stop first. On the way there i see this 4 door impala in the ditch. I figure, if they are still there on the way back, ill stop and see if i can help.

They were still there..

So i get out, and have a look. They missed the turn and dropped the right front off in a ditch that is about 5ft deep. They landed on the pipe grate that covers the culvert, and the car was sitting on the bumper. It also popped the air bags.

We first tried to climb on the car and tilt the wheel back up so he could reverse, but it was to far gone.

About that time another guy shows up with this big honkin chain, but his truck isnt in position to pull them out (on the side of a very busy 4 lane road) so i pull up and put on my drop hitch. They wrap the chain around the cars rear cross member, and to my hitch. i told him to start the car, cut the wheel and reverse while i pulled because i couldnt get a strait pull on him. I dropped it in first and eased on it, and never even spun a tire. The chain made a horrible noise sliding on my hitch, but he popped out just fine. They took the chain off, said there thanks and i was on my way!

I was telling a coworker about it, because that is the apartments she lives in, and she pulls up face book and says "this car?"

One of her neighbors had posted a pic of the car in the ditch!!

Its hard to see from the pic but the left rear tire is a good 4ft off the ground. If it weren't for that grate, he would have flipped upside down in the ditch.:whhooo:

Good deed for sure bro. Happens almost daily here in the winter if theres ice, always pullin someone out of the barrow pit.

A little exaggeration on the 4ft(maybe the deck lid but not the tire) but the car's definitely stuck :hehe: I've been told by my police officer friends here that you should not pull someone out of a ditch like that because it's considered an accident and should be reported.

yeah but as long as nothing got damaged a few cops wont even write anything up. plus the more dings on the record suck on the insurance!! I used to pull alot of people out every winter until I sold my rig. I had an 88 nissan pathfinder limited edition V6 3.0... I was pullin fullsize trucks out of places... it was funny and alot of big ford owners almost didnt let me hook on to their truck cause it was to big for me to pull. I pulled one out while he was still in park to show there wasn't a problem.. you should have seen his face!!

But yeah back on track good job on the good deed!!!

yea man those old pathfinders are awesome...my buddy used to have one and that thing was a tank....i dont think we ever put it in 4 wheel drive....didn't need to...it had a posi in the rear and never slipped a tire....damn thing had a hole in the rear pass side floorboard and under the seat though...couple that with no heat cuz of a bypassed heater core and it made for some cold hours spent beatin that thing through the hills in the winter...he sold it a couple years ago...i miss that truck we had some good time with that thing...

yeah I miss my truck aswell!!!! I had that pathfinder which had 3 inches of lift and I had an 86 and a half nissan kingcab p-up with the z24 4cyl. in it with 3inches of lift and 33's on it, that was the perfect pair of trucks if you ask me!!! I was dumb for trading them off!!!! My pathfinder was the 2dr version with black windows crome trim around the rockers and the mad rims. it was real sharp looking!!! I would love to find one of each again and turn the p-up into a rock crawler that would be awsome!!
