Anyone own either a Go Cart or a Moped? I was looking for a good deal on a moped. For the Go Cart, I have a friend which can weld me the COMPLETE fram for the cart. I have the engine, and I was wondering if Anyone ever build a custom gocart? Thanks!

Cool. Do you have any plans drawn out? I was thinking about going down to the junkyard this weekend to try and find a riding lawnmower or a used moped or something of the likes. I have a 3.5hp engine. When i finish polishing the piston and sleeve, it should beable to reach higher rpm's. If you have any plans at all...send em to me.

I have welded up several Go carts, with multiple levels of suspension setups. If you need any tips or ideas, feel free to ask:cheers: . As for converting tractors, the amount of chopping you would have to do is extensive, your better off getting tube a starting from scratch. A moped engine is a good engine to use, but remember a lot of the mopeds are shaft driven, be sure you get a chain drive. Also KoRnKiD, another two things about a tractor that sucks, is that the trannies are not shift on the fly, which means you can not shift while moving, The other, is the the engine is a vertical drive, not horizontal, which can't be setup to drive wheels with out the trannie.

ya I dont really have anyplans iam just taking a riding lawnmower and taking the blades off and making a throttle pedal for it.

Cool Korn Kid.
Hey Maxx, I can get a Tube Chassis welded for under 200 bucks. Thats a deal I'm sure. Its quality welds on quality metal. I was just wondering if you had any sheet on how to setup the drivetrain and steering componnents. I got the throttle and brake lines all setup already.
Also, I had an idea to use a bike brake clamps on a smaller brake disc. Will that work? I can set it up without a problem, but will the stopping power be enough to stop a 200# plus vehicle? I'm light...around 100-110 pounds.

I just traded my Go-ped for a custom Off-Road mini bike. The thing is awesome, the guy i bought it from gave me a 3.5 B&S, still didnt get to ride it due to the fact i needed to order a bunch of chains and cables, so that will be here in 4 days...hopefully... Anyway can't wait to see how it works. For the G0-kart, I love building them things, its great to even get an old beatup one and fix er up, as for the tractor, it can be done. Its true some are not Shift on the fly, but, you can mess with the tranny and take out all the govoners for the speed control. I know a guy who took an old tractor mower and had 4 speeds on it, he goes faster than the cars on the highway around 60 he can push it. Really hillarious. But let me know if you need any help.

i just got myself a 5hp Briggs and stratton powered Minibike, it threw my 300lb ass off it backwards real fast.

I'm planning on doing some custom work to it to maybe squeeze 6.2-3 out of it.

KK you are just copying me.... Man those min bikes are fun I rode my friends the other day, just hard to balance.. if you want fun get a used Motorcycle, 3 wheeler, quad something like that and fix it up.... oh and don't take the governer off the engine I blew up my lawnmower when I did that.........:(

Very good point, even though you can get a higher top speed and a little better bottom end, the chances of you blowing it up are pretty good. the last two I built, had motorcycle engines, one a 1989 Honda ascott 500, worked ok, top speed was aroung 80, but had nothing in the bottom end. THe other was a RM 250! now that was an incredible ride! I designed a whole suspension for that one. I never brought it up to full speed, I figured I had no business going that fast:D

it's funny Kellen brought this up.

I was thinking. Some of these big Nitro engines have 3-4HP. That's only 1HP away from a lawnmower engine.

Could you imagine putting a 3HP nitro engine on one of those razor scooters? That would be sweet!

Would that be a Nitro glow engine or a lawnmower engine? THe nitro engine could never pull the scooter. Nitro engines rely on air cooling for the engine to keep from overheating. I'm not sure about lawnmower engines though, I think 4-strokes run alot cooler than 2-strokes.

lawn mower engine have and oil pan, oil pump, etc etc like a car. Nitro uses the oil in the fuel. I think that's the main factor in heat.

Chainsaw engine might work. :D They use lube in the gas like nitro but it's a gas / oil mix obviously.

I've done that before, my buddy had an old 2 stroke Lawnmower, we rean it on 50/50 C16 race fuel, and Nitromethane.

It shot flames for about 5 minutes, and then Seized up.

the piston was melted to the wall.

(no lubrication)

if your talking about putting that on one of those little scooters, people are. Chainsaw engines are the same as weedwacker engines, they are all small two strokes. Now you wanna really get crazy! Get a backpack 2 stroke leaf blower engine, those monsters are slim line setups and the big ones are 2 to 3 times more powerful than any chainsaw or weedwacker. they sit high, but are snub and thin. I have seen them @ 10hp

kinda off topic:

I got this video of this little gas powered scooter with like a 4 speed auto, centax clutch...i think like a 26hp race engine that makes like 26,000rpm and it has nitrous on it...the thing is hella badass.

If you want, i will host it.

Does it happen to be racing a Firebird on the street? if so, i had that, and lost it in a Fire.
