Or...I could just buy a Black Ecto Element & not build anything. Just open a box a delivery truck brought me. Already RTR. And I wouldn't have to ask questions about which 3 channel receiver & radio is best for a crawler with a 2spd gearbox & get roasted.

That's a very interesting take on things. I never would have thought about running that kinda setup and using drone batteries.

So, with that castle setup, how well is the slow craw with that compared to the FOC stuff? I've seen the FOC equipped ESC's move the wheels like a slow creep, and I have seen a couple vids about FOC for industrial motor use and a few crawler ones showing how it maintains the same surface speed, even when the torque demand on the motor increases.

I am curious to know your thoughts on the difference between the Castle system you suggested and the Hobbywing or any other FOC equipped system with regards to that and the slow crawling ability of each.

I don't have any 1/10 crawlers, because flat grassy fields aren't so much fun to crawl. But I'd still like to build one some day just to build one.
There are upsides to many options, but some bring much less of a weight penalty than others.

We have 2 of the Fusion Pro's and they are pretty darn good. Hard to beat for the price and performance, but they are not the lightest options.

Castle Slate / Copper Head is a system which can be used for anything; crawling to rock racing. It's sensored, so it creeps super slow as well without cogging, but it can also rip massive RPM's if you are trying for speed on the track. I think we have 6 of those systems.

Single-speed crawling, then I'm gonna lean towards the Fusion Pro. Two speed crawling and trailing, then Castle is a better fit. My TRX-4 2021 Bronco runs one and it's perfect for that setup.

If you want best of everything, then a Holmes Hobbies 2250 team spec and V3 Crawlmaster ESC is the way to go. Super light, high torque density per gram, but you gotta be able to dial in your spur gear and transmission to get the correct wheel speed.

Transmission and gearing is a bit piece to this, so you gotta keep that in mind.

I dug through my spare parts & forgot I had a 550 14t brushed motor & 18t×0.8mod pinion & adapter sleeve in another kit. Also a generic 42kg servo. I'll have to look & see what the mod is in the gearbox or even if 18t is even close to right. Might just consider a HW 1080 G2 QuicRun at $45.

Even found a Power HD 18kg servo for the gearbox. Maybe I can put this all together soon.

I've got the straight axle GS02F Buffalo, as far as I'm aware it's the same chassis except for the portals.
All I'll say is buy some spare bevel gears, the Spider ones are the same part number (GM60068) and pot metal as the Buffalo ones :(
