I am getting a used x1 crt roller. I have questions for an engine and bump box as i never used a bump box before and i am clueless what engine to run in a truggy.

I have a line on one of these for a truggy.

Will it be good enough to start a .21 to .38 engine??

Also, what engine to get. Everyone I talk to tell me to get a picco .28. My choices are

OR

http://cgi.ebay.com/OFNA-Picco-28-8...Control_Parts_Accessories?hash=item53defcc35c

But I really want a .21

How will the .21 compare to the picco powerwise and fuel consumption wise???

Radio.

My fav is

Will the futaba 2 do since i do not need that 3rd channel, or is the 3pmx the radio to get. Also the airtonics radio i am crazy in love with, but everyone i talk to tells me that the receivers leave a lot to be desired.

I would love something with telemetry, however the budget(read ball and chain) will not allow for that.

Thanks for your time.

Personally I use this Starter Box. I run a 4s LIPO in it, and I'm convinced it will kick over a Honda Civic if I could attach it ;-) The one you linked looks like it could be a clone of this one, not 100% sure.

I would stick to a .21 engine. You will get better fuel mileage, and the .28s can be a handful sometimes. This is a GREAT inexpensive .21. I personally run an Alpha Plus engine, but those are always out of stock lately....B5 was my second choice.

The 3rd radio you linked would be my pick out of those 3.

Spektrum also makes a cheaper DX3e now as well. Single Model memory, but it's 2.4Ghz and it's $99 with an RX. Can be seen here:

Thanks man. I would deff look at the engine you listed as it's right in my price range. The box deff looks like a clone of the one you listed. What have you heard about the airtronics antenna always breaking???? Anything i should worry about, or is it just talk?

Yep, pulled the trigger on your engine recommendation. I have read the reviews, nobody had a negative thing to say about it. Should i stick with the pipes listed, or do you have any recommendations??

I also got the airtronix radio. Love the way it looks, has nice feature, nice reviews. After all, I have to uphold my rep to go against the masses.

Yeah TONS of people are loving the B5 at the moment. About the same number hat are flocking to the Alpha Plus line of engines...both in the $200 ballpark. How can ya really go wrong right?

I haven't heard anything about the Airtronics antennas breaking to be honest. We have a few locals that run em...never heard bad things so they must be decent ;-)

I don't have any pipe recommendations for the B5, but if you head over to rctech there is a HUGE B5 thread.

B5 runs great with a 2013 pipe....They are expensive though .

Yeah man, i did look into that. Something like near a benjamin for the pipe and header. You know any other pipes that will work good with this, or am I going to have to buy the 2013???

One more thing, how should i break this thing in??? Old school, and let it idle, or new school and just drive it like miss daisy till 1 gallon??? This is far the most expensive thing i have bought that is RC related, I am not trying macgiverish things with this engine.

Heat cycle breakin, tune it to perform without straining it until the pinch relaxes.
Honestly, I've never seen one run with anything else. I just know my bud's goes almost 12 minutes in his Losi buggy on that pipe. It runs very nice. The pipe is a POS as far build quality. Really thin and cheap. We have repaired the pipe 3 times, one time we had to have the stinger put back on it.
Werks is releasing their own pipes for it...I honestly don't know what else to use on it.

Good stuff man, thanks for the info. Any eta on the werks pipes??? I am not touching this until it hits 70 outside, not taking any chances. I do not mind waiting 6-8 weeks for the pipe to be released.

I'll see if I can get a line on one. He's a dealer for Werks.

I broke in my new Alpha Plus engine in 40-50 degree weather. Just pre-heat it....and keep it warm. I put a 1/10th tire foam around the head during my first 4 tanks or so. Kept it nice and toasty. Break in is boring....use the cold weather and down time to get that part done so you can drive in the nice weather! hehe

Werks pipes are already in production, they just keep selling out. Backordered everywhere. They are making a hard coated 2013 and 2057. I'd go with the 2057. I've seen that pipe on a Ex-Tech .24, ballistic power all thru the powerband.

Hey man, i just picked up a jp4 pipe today. After doing some research, seems the jp4 pipe is a mid-high end pipe for this engine. Radio is here, engine is here, servos are here, pipe is here, odonells 30percent is here, new fuel line is here. Just waiting on the truggy to arrive. One thing i can say, DAMN THAT CARB IS HUGE.

Ill post some pictures once everything arrives.

They should be a good match. I have a JP-4 to try out myself.

Thank you guys for all the advice. Here is an update. Thought I got ripped off on the roller, guy sent no tracking number, would not respond to emails, etc. After like 9 business days, my g/f got tired of looking at my sappy face, she ordered a d8t off of A-Main...........not 10 minutes later, door bell rings. Well, you can figure out the rest of the story, but it involves a guy in a brown suit. New trug should be here on the 10th. Sold the roller, waiting payment from the guy. Guess where it's going??? To another guy, next town over from where my roller was shipped.

What sucks about this is that it's gunna be a heat wave in CT for the next few days. It's going to be in the high 40's, so, hopefully i will have it together before the white stuff falls again.

Thank bro. She is officially done. I am so damn paranoid that i just keep checking every screw, nut, bolt, etc. Gotta wait for this rain to stop falling. Supposed to be in hte high 50's starting monday, a real heat wave for CT. I can't not wait to beak this B5 in. I was surprised at the quality, the build, the attention to detail between this Werks b5 and my mach/axial, any sport motor. I guess 50 more dollars does buy you a whole lot of quality. Hope the motor runs as good as it looks.

The B5 will serve you right for sure. I debated between the Alpha Plus engines...and the B5 for a month before finally pulling the trigger on the Alpha. My main reasoning....to be different ;-) We have a LOT of guys running the B5 with GREAT success. They are little rocketships...especially at their price point. Runtime for most of the guys is 11-13 min as well.

You won't be disappointed ;-) There are some AWESOME mills at the $200 price point now. I will NEVER spend $500 on an engine. lol

The B5 is sweet, I may grab one myself later on. If a buggy can go 12 minutes with a B5 installed, a truggy should go 15 minutes easy! The engine has tons of torque, I'd pick up a 14 tooth CB for a tuning option later on. It can push the extra tooth no problem.
Just remember to preheat that sucker before you run it for the first half gallon at least.
What do you think of the D8T as far as build quality? I have never driven one or seen one up close. 360 bucks from towerhobbies is a damn good price for a new truggy.
