I have the seemingly old rs4 3 and I had put a .18 motor in it long before HPI did. The problem I had was that I couldn't get it to shift with the 2 speed that I put in it. Now that HPI has come out with the 18ss I can try to figure out my problems. Can anyone tell me the gears that are in the 18ss? I tried looking for pics on hpiracing.com and can't find any of the new gears. I am assuming that they are different since the 2 speed was for a .12 or .15. Can anyone help me with this. Any info will be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Frank

P.S. I have the stock gears (purple) and I see that the .18ss uses the red gears. Is that the difference?

I would say that your two speed is set incorrectly or something is wrong with it. The 2 speed works on centrifigal (sp?) force, so it should shift the same no matter what engine you put in it. As for the red and purple gears, the red ones are a tooth higher, but again your gears aren't whats stoping the 2 speed from shifting. If anyting it should shift slightly sooner with your lower gears. Are you sure it's just not shifting so soon that you can't tell, or are you positive it's just not shifting at all? Did you use the 2 speed with an engine before you installed the .18, and did it work ok then?

My old RS4 3 also has a 18ss motor installed... I changed nothing on
the car when I switched over... everything works fine... your two speed
is the culprit...

Thanks everyone! I went and bought a new 2 speed thinking the same thing about a week ago. I am about to put it in and didn't want to until I heard from people like you.

Off to the races...

Thanks again!

Frank
